Publisher's summary

L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s The Magic of Recluce begins his best-selling fantasy series the Saga of Recluce, which is one of the most popular in contemporary epic fantasy.

Young Lerris yearns to find a place in the world better suited to his skills and temperament. In Recluce, this means taking one of two options: permanent exile from Recluce or the dangergeld, a complex, rule-laden wanderjahr in the lands beyond. Many do not survive.

Lerris chooses dangergeld.

Lerris will need magic in the lands beyond, where the power of the Chaos Wizards reigns unchecked, and he must learn to use his powers in an orderly way before his wanderjahr, or fall prey to Chaos.

Performed by: Amanda Forstrom, Andy Brownstein, Andy Clemence, Bradley Smith, Carolyn Kashner, Chris Genebach, Chris Stinson, Colleen Delany, David Jourdan, Dylan Lynch, Elizabeth Jernigan, Eric Messner, Evan Casey, Jacob Yeh, Jeff Allin, Jessica Lauren Ball, Jonathan Feuer, Ken Jackson, Lise Bruneau, Marni Penning, Matthew Bassett, Michael Glenn, Michael John Casey, Mort Shelby, Nanette Savard, Nora Achrati, Peter Holdway, Richard Rohan, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Scott McCormick, Steven Carpenter, Terence Aselford Thomas Keegan, and Tim Getman

Love the graphic audio format. I made it much more visual in my mind's eye.

I felt this particular stories "lessons" learned by the protagonist, and the conspiracy of his relatives and recluse and their motives were unclear at best. additionally the ending felt somewhat rushed and as the facts were omitted for brevity.

Great Story and Performance

The story by itself is already really well told and written but the performance makes it come alive. I can't wait to listen to the rest of them and hope that they adapt the remainder of the series as well.

An classic revisted

I read this book when I was like 13 years old (give or take). Now listening to it in graphic audio while I work is a godsend. Thank you Graphic Audio and Audible for providing this format and making it part of my normal credit use.

Great series. Great voice actors - Simple as that.

I didn't enjoy it.

The first voice pronounced the authors name incorrectly. The name of the first city was mispronounced. Hunks of the book was left out to the point that it wasn't clear why he was doing things. He suddenly had powers that weren't explained how he got them. The stories of the other characters were left out. The book was left less complex and rich. I won't buy another book from this format. Did the book a disservice.
