Publisher's summary

Nineteen-year-old Tessie Miller is the youngest of her Old Order parents' five daughters--and the only one yet to marry. She has her heart set on Amishman Marcus Smucker, and come wedding season, they plan to tie the knot and start a family together. But Tessie's father disapproves. Ammon Miller has his reasons, and he has put his foot down. The marriage will not go forward.

Impetuously, Tessie and Marcus take matters into their own hands, eloping to exchange their vows in the fancy, English world. After a secret honeymoon, they return to their Plain community to live as singles, hoping that, in time, they can convince the Millers to give their love a chance. But when the unthinkable happens, Tessie faces the biggest challenge of her life--and the almost-certain censure of the People. Will Tessie find a reason for hope in spite of her desperate plight?

The Last Bride

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

All of Mrs. Lewis's books are excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed Tessie. She had such a strong presence to do the right thing.

What does Christina Moore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did an excellent job. My husband listened to the entire book, too. This was due to the talents of both the author and narrator.

Any additional comments?

I've always loved the setting of Hickory Hollow. I also love the Wise Woman. I admired the character of Mr. Smucker. Looking forward to more by the author and narrator. Enjoy!

The Last Bride

This is one of my favorite Beverly Lewis books.I had a great time listening to it. I love how Lewis incorporated Ela Mae into the story. She is on of my favorite characters. I love how Levi, despite all the rummers going around, still loves Tillie and believes in her. It's a great example of a true friend.
I do wish that we had a little more information about Tessie's baby. For more then half the book I was anticipating the arrival of the baby, and, by the time the baby finally came, the book was over.
But still I absolutely love this book so much!!

Beverly Lewis new book

Would you listen to The Last Bride again? Why?

probably not, I like it but too much repartition

What other book might you compare The Last Bride to and why?

I really cannot compare it to other Beverly Lewis book as this was much slower and just did not have the punch for me.

What does Christina Moore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a very good job but the wording is always the same so it is hard to explain, read it for yourself and see what you think

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes,, when she gives birth to a baby fathered by Marcus.

Any additional comments?

A slow story
, but perhaps that is just my feeling

A little too much perhaps

Enjoyed it but wondering if it could’ve tamed down the religious side a bit more.
