Publisher's summary

This is the original 1927 story of The House on the Cliff: The Hardy Boys Book 2. Frank and Joe Hardy, brothers who are high school students, use their investigation skills to solve the mystery of the vacant house on the cliff that was supposed to be haunted. Then it was suspected of being the abode of criminals. When Mr. Hardy goes to investigate—and disappears—the boys set to work to find their father. Their investigation leads to plenty of excitement and danger with international smugglers to clear up the mystery of the house on the cliff.

Much has changed in America since 1927. The modern listener may be delighted with the warmth and innocence of the characters, but uncomfortable with the racial, social, and sexist terms and stereotypes. As such, this book is a part of our heritage, a window into our real past.

Everything but the author

So I grew up reading the Hardy Boys, and loved that Audible had at least some of them available early on. Wanted to try this narrator out, DONT DO IT. He ruins the story for me. Love this book, the narrator totally killed it for me though.

Really struggle with this narrator

Great story but the performance has odd inflections and a really nasally voice. Would love to hear these stories told by a stronger performer. As it is, it’s pretty hard to listen to and this being the second in the series, I’m going to look for alternative stories for awhile now.

Good classic story

Fast paced and fun listen. Also gives some flavor of early 1900’s community life. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Craptastic.... going to avoid book 3 too...

Gave it a chance yet again... FAIL... Narrator is completely terrible compared to the other Hardy Boy books by this Author...

Please recast narrator!

No warning about the N word. Buyer beware.

Extremely disappointed that there was no warning about the casual racism. I'm currently trying to explain the use of the N word to my 8 year old.
