Publisher's summary

Alden Bramblethorn’s job at The Whispering Willow is wearing on him.

But it’s not just that. His family is broken, and he has no living relatives. Lonely, he seeks answers from the GoldenRoot Ancestral Repository. It doesn’t take long for him to strike gold.

There, he finds an ancient letter with a deed to Starshine Farm—a chance to leave everything behind, make real connections, and start over. And, besides, he’s a [Level 4] Chloromancer. Plants love him. Farming can’t be that difficult. Right?

Well, turns out, it can. Especially when the property was abandoned one hundred years ago. Which begs the question: Why did his ancestor, Balthazar Wildewood, leave the farm behind and disappear? The people of Twilight Haven don’t know. Most are scared of the property, and don’t want anything to do with it. But all that changes when Alden grabs a shovel, and starts digging away.

Pick up The Harvest of Moondew Valley: Well of Shadows today and join Alden as he uncovers the mystery of Balthazar’s past, makes connections with the villagers of Twilight Haven, and embarks on a journey of self-discovery and unexpected romance. interesting

I originally bought the book and once I was into this I loved the rpg aspect. I love rpg games, so this made me want to keep reading and every time I put it down I wanted to know more of the story. I can't wait for another like this and it's made me interested in wanting to read more of this authors work. and I absolutely love that the audiobook was released

Wholesome Slice of Life

Excellent! Listened to this twice. The first time alone, the second time with my 6 year old. This was a great book to listen to together. It’s such a unique world with a vibrant tapestry of character that are woven together for quite the enjoyable tale. My kid absolutely enjoyed listening to it with me. This was a great way to introduce them to the genre and share something together.

Wonderful story

The story it self is great a wonder filled beginning to what I hope is an amazing story. For me the pace of reading felt a bit slow but I no way took away from the story.

Wonderful Slice of Life Fantasy

This was a great listen. The characters were distinct and had enough depth to make me root for each of them and care about their perspectives. The story was solid, the system aspects were interesting, and the mystery aspects kept me wanting to binge more. Overall, it was an enjoyable book.

Fresh Experience

This would be a perfect slice of life story for those in search for emotional growth, and learning about how how make your own path in life. It evokes a Ghibli-like scene for me, idyllic and sublime. I am not familiar with a lot of the tropes and references which made this a fresh experience for me.

The narrator however was difficult for me to focus on.

Enjoyable Stories and Characters.

Good Slice of Life Fantasy with an interesting system. Having the MC see where he stands with other characters was creative, if not unique. Solid start to the series with a narrator that's well above average.

Enjoyable Story and Performance

I already loved the story but getting to hear it performed is an all new experience. The narration is top notch.
As someone who doesn't have time to play a lot of games, getting to enjoy one through reading/listening is so much fun. And this is the type of story I enjoy, slice of life, traveling with Alden as he explores his inheritance of more than just land.

Heroic Farming?

Alden’s mom went through three divorces. Alden and his most recent girlfriend broke up even though they worked at the same shop. Alden’s life was going no here and he longed for someone he was related to and whom he could build a relationship with. He longed for family. Alden had started visiting the GoldenRoot Ancestral Repository as often as he could to find someone over time or distance related to him. So far all of the searches on Bramblethorn haven’t turned up anything or anyone. So Alden start paying for an expert to dig deeper.

Alden’s job was taking care of the plants. He could feel them and nurture them but as he is doing his job, he notices his boss come in with payment due notices. After she leaves the office Alden keeps tending to the plants. After Alden breaks a shelf and plants come crashing down, he is left go from his job. The expert finally reached his mother and coerced the name of his biological father out of her. The expert searched for hours with his father’s name and found a file from almost a century ago. He found multiple letters most opened and one unopened. The expert sent a letter explaining to Alden along with the unopened letter to his distant relation.

As Alden opens the letter the envelope crumbles. Within is the deed for Starshine Farm. The farm is 2000 acres in Twilight Haven. He receives a quest to see if anyone else claims the land and find the residents of Starshine Farm. Alden found it on the map and started packing. He stopped himself and really thought about it. Was he really leaving everything behind for this farm? He knew that someone had to respond and take ownership of it and that meant family. He was doing this. He could help tend it with his gift.

Without giving too much away (if you have read my other reviews, I don’t like to give the story away), Alden grows, learns and heals. Alden learns that some of the family he has been yearning for, have been there and family doesn’t need to mean blood. And so it begins…

This is story is well written, things pick up once Alden is farming and I would definitely recommend.
