Publisher's summary

Scarlet House, now a historical re-enactment museum, is the oldest building in West London, Massachusetts. When things start moving around on their own, board members suggest that Gemma Doyle, owner of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium, might be able to get to the bottom of it.

Gemma doesn’t believe in ghosts, but she agrees to eliminate the impossible. But when Gemma and Jayne stumble across a dead body on the property, they’re forced to consider an all too physical threat. Gemma and Jayne suspect foul play as they start to uncover more secrets about the museum. With the museum being a revolving door for potential killers, they have plenty of options for who might be the actual culprit.

Despite Gemma's determination not to get further involved, it would appear that once again, and much to the displeasure of Detective Ryan Ashburton, the game is afoot. Will Gemma and Jayne be able to solve the mystery behind the haunted museum, or will they be the next to haunt it?

A Fun Story

This is the first book of the series that I’ve listened to instead of read. I’m not a huge fan of the narrator, she can’t do an American accent at all. Her voice doesn’t seem to match Gemma, probably since I had a voice in my own head grin the books.
The story is fun, it fits it well with the series. The mystery was interesting, if you enjoyed the others then you’ll more than likely enjoy this one, too.

Great story but……

Again the story is the redeeming part of the book. Gemma continues with her know it all conduct. At least Pippa joins in and it quells her a bit as there are things she actually she, Gemma, does NOT know. Marvel of marvels. Narration still a bit off as Pippa sometimes sounds a bit American southern. Highly unlikely. And again poor Louise Estrada has that nasally accent from…where?? Realize Ryan is a hard working officer facing long hours but narrator often makes him sound 90 years old. Must be one of her favourite “voices” as it has belonged to Donald in other books.

Story is good if complex in parts. Robin, historical society chair, is brilliantly obnoxious. I’m not sure why author brought in the Ashley/Bunny side story. It added nothing to the overall book. So, I continue on, trying to ignore Gemma and enjoying the other characters.

Two Stories In One!

This latest adventure of Gemma and Jayne consists of two stories in one! First, we start off with the story of Scarlett House, and then the second story is about Ashleigh finding her biological mother! It was really interesting to find out about Ashleigh being related to a pop star! Also, it was jolly good for Pippa to come back and partner up again with Gemma to end The Scarlet House ghost mysteries and murder!
