Story
The internet of today is a far cry from its early promise of a decentralized, democratic network of innovation, connection, and freedom. In the past decade, it has fallen almost entirely under the control of a very small group of companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook. In Read Write Own, tech visionary Chris Dixon argues that the dream of an open network for fostering creativity and entrepreneurship doesn’t have to die and can, in fact, be saved with blockchain networks.

The Web, and with it the Internet, are entering a new age. We’ve moved from the “Read-only Web,” which had little functionality for interacting with content, to the “Read-Write Web,” which offered seemingly endless collaborative opportunities, from sharing with our favorite people to shopping at our favorite brands. But the profusion of cyberattacks, data hacks, and online profiling have left many of us to view digital life as a Faustian bargain in need of a major rethink.

After Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin dropped out of college and launched Bitcoin Magazine, he wrote the Ethereum white paper, which proposed an open source protocol that would take what Bitcoin did for money and do it for everything else: contracts, social networks, and sharing economies. Now, less than a decade later, his idea is valued at about half a trillion dollars, and it is the foundation for the weird new world of NFT artworks, virtual real estate, and decentralized autonomous organizations.

Wharton professor Ethan Mollick immediately understood what ChatGPT meant: after millions of years on our own, humans had developed a kind of co-intelligence that could augment, or even replace, human thinking. Through his writing, speaking, and teaching, Mollick has become one of the most prominent and provocative explainers of AI.

CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side? In Going Infinite Lewis sets out to answer this question, taking listeners into the mind of Bankman-Fried.

The story of Ethereum begins with Vitalik Buterin, a supremely gifted 19-year-old autodidact who saw the promise of blockchain when the technology was in its earliest stages. He convinced a crack group of coders to join him in his quest to make a super-charged, global computer. The Infinite Machine introduces Vitalik’s ingenious idea and unfolds Ethereum’s chaotic beginnings. It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew.

Although software has become easier to build, launching and scaling new products and services remains difficult. Start-ups face daunting challenges entering the technology ecosystem, including stiff competition, copycats, and ineffective marketing channels. Teams launching new products must consider the advantages of “the network effect”, where a product or service’s value increases as more users engage with it. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and other tech giants utilize network effects, and most tech products incorporate them.

Publisher's summary
A Harvard Business School professor and a16z crypto research partner and a career marketer and Web3 entrepreneur demystify the coming digital revolution, showing how NFTs will transform our online and offline interactions.
NFTs aren’t just pictures on the internet, or a fad that has come and gone. Rather, they're a new technology for creating digital assets and providing irrefutable proof of ownership. NFTs open up markets that have never before existed, and are already revolutionizing commerce and brand-building at everything from hot startups to Fortune 500 companies.
Kominers and Kaczynski have created a framework that explains what NFTs are, why they’re valuable, and how businesses can leverage them to build highly engaged and intensely loyal communities around their products and brands.
Through original research and industry experience, Kominers and Kaczynski describe the possibilities of this new digital frontier with clarity and rigor. The Everything Token is the essential primer on this innovation that has the potential to transform all aspects of business.
Critic reviews
"Just like the dawn of the internet and social media, the early days of NFTs were filled with a lot of noise. Now that the dust has settled, the businesses that truly know how to use this technology are leading the way into a new digital era. The Everything Token cuts through the clutter and lays out a blueprint of what you can learn from that top 1% of companies that are using NFTs right." — Gary Vaynerchuk, Chairman of VaynerX, CEO of VaynerMedia, and Creator & CEO of VeeFriends
"Web3 offers many new opportunities -- including NFTs, which have countless use cases. Kaczynski and Kominers share valuable insights from their in-depth research and experiences with NFT communities on how businesses and brands, whether incumbent or upstart, can use them." — Chris Dixon, Founder and Managing Partner, a16z crypto
"You can't ask for savvier or more enthusiastic guides to the potential of NFTs than Kaczynski and Kominers."
— Alvin E. Roth, Craig and Susan McCaw Professor of Economics at Stanford University and Nobel Laureate in Economics

Data is fundamental to the modern world. From economic development, to healthcare, to education and public policy, we rely on numbers to allocate resources and make crucial decisions. But because so much data fails to take into account gender, treating men as the default and women as atypical, bias and discrimination are baked into our systems. And women pay tremendous costs for this bias in time, money, and often with their lives. Celebrated feminist advocate Caroline Criado Perez investigates the shocking root cause of gender inequality and research in Invisible Women.

Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

To be clear, this audiobook is not about the typical garbage peddled by most insurance agents. Rather, an alternative to the risky investment strategies taught by Wall Street. It details a highly efficient form of cash value life insurance designed to supercharge your savings and stockpile wealth.

Educate yourself on Blockchain
I’ve been in the web3 and NFT space for 2 years now and I have to say this book provides an amazing foundation for new and old adopters. I would highly recommend this book to everyone whether you’re interested or not. So much great information and value provided by this book. Excited to see this information getting out and I enjoy listening to Steve in the morning on X.

Solid education
Was a great deep dive into the world of NFTs. So many ways this technology will grow for brands going forward. I love the collectible angle more than anything.

If you missed the first websites-wave, social media-boat… then this is your chance to get ahead of them all.
Truly an inspiring book. Easy to understand and full of examples to even make grandparents - remember the time that you said you would never get a plastic bank card, smartphone, social media account…- understand that this is without any doubt the next killer wave on the internet. Growing the World Wide Web to a Worth While World. A must read to everyone involved in both big brands and … in local shops, restaurants… anything. The best ‘true soulmate finder’ is coming. Emphasizing ‘true’ because digital wallets are gonna show that you are the real deal. And if you now think ‘what does my money have to do with finding the best matches and with this book’… then you better start reading to understand what a ‘digital wallet’ actually is…

Nice intro into Web3
I can recommend this if you are new to Web3 but unfortunately it only scratches the surface of many areas, besides couple examples.
The book paints quite an idealistic view of Web3, but sadly greed has ruined many of these nice ideals in real life. I still remain bullish about Web3.
