Publisher's summary

“This summer’s sweetest confection is J.C. Cervantes’s The Enchanted Hacienda. This book is like dipping your brain into a jar of serotonin.” —New York Times Book Review

"This is a contemporary coming-of-age story, with a sprinkling of magic, that’s one of my most anticipated reads of the year." Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author, in Elle Magazine

When Harlow Estrada is abruptly fired from her dream job and her boyfriend proves to be a jerk, her world turns upside down. She flees New York City to the one place she can always call home—the enchanted Hacienda Estrada.

The Estrada family farm in Mexico houses an abundance of charmed flowers cultivated by Harlow’s mother, sisters, aunt, and cousins. By harnessing the magic in these flowers, they can heal hearts, erase memories, interpret dreams—but not Harlow. So when her mother and aunt give her a special task involving the family’s magic, she panics. How can she rise to the occasion when she is magicless? But maybe it’s not magic she’s missing, but belief in herself. When she finally embraces her unique gifts and opens her heart to a handsome stranger, she discovers she’s far more powerful than she imagined.

With unforeseen twists, romance, and a heavy sprinkle of magic, The Enchanted Hacienda is a captivating coming-of-age debut exploring identity, unconditional family love, and uncovering the magic within us all.

Editorial Review

Do you believe in magic?
As the days get thankfully longer and the temperatures rise I wanted my next listen to be something that set off the summer with a shimmer. Enter The Enchanted Hacienda by J.C. Cervantes, my listening dreams realized. Glittering with magical realism, this novel about the timeless bonds of family, love, and lore delivers. Opening in New York City with the all too familiar hustle of trying to find your way in a competitive career, we meet Harlow Estrada, a thoughtful, self-possessed young woman who longs to make her dreams a reality. After a turn of genuinely lame events including a breakup and a layoff, Harlow heads to her ancestral home, Hacienda Estrada in Mexico, where she uncovers her heart’s desires alongside the legacy of magic and flora interwoven in her lineage. Although she was not given powers, unlike the other women in her family, she might still get her chance to shine. Come for the story and stay for Frankie Corzo’s captivating narration. —Kelley S., Audible Editor

I wasn't expecting this book to be so steamy...

I really enjoyed the story and wanted to know what would happen next. I was left with some unanswered questions about Alicia and the spell that would be placed on the readers. I'm assuming it all worked out, but I felt like the ending was incomplete. I think I just wanted more time in this world with these characters.

Easy listening with a few steamy parts. Enjoyed the descriptions of places; you can really picture it. Overall it was okay, not the best, but I’m glad I listened to it.

The Enchanted Hacienda is a story of a young woman who comes into her own power, as she discovers her unique talents, while experiencing the ups and downs of romance with a dreamboat man.

The book is J. C. Cervantes’s first adult novel. Her origins as an author of young adult fiction is evident in the ways she crafts the characters and the plot.

Liked the concept but it fell short

The concept of this book was great and I was really enjoying it but then things got slow and whiney. There was also a plot point that was left unresolved! Also, this narrator was sooooo sloooow. Had to speed up the audio to make her read at a normal pace.

beautiful story

The description of the little town in Mexico makes you want to visit and see this glorious flower farm! The family represents unconditional love and acceptance. I was very sad when it ended.

Magic Love Loss and the Goddess!

A lovely story of finding who you are and where and what you need to do with your life.
My only complaint was that the female character spoke as though she was reading and annunciation was being graded most of the book. It just didn’t seem like she was “ feeling” the statements she was saying about anger, pain, love, loss, fear.
All in all a good listen!
