Publisher's summary

An IndiBound best seller, The Days of Abandonment shocked and captivated its Italian public when first published. It is the gripping story of a woman's descent into devastating emptiness after being abandoned by her husband, with two young children to care for. When she finds herself literally trapped within the four walls of their high-rise apartment, she is forced to confront her ghosts, the potential loss of her own identity, and the possibility that life may never return to normal.

Huber

I am at the end of my rope with Hilary Huber's reading. Not all children are petulant, bratty, shallow, nonsensical problems. And I am constantly thinking that my streaming is slow, when it turns out that's jus Siri reading a book - I don't have this issue with any other reader.

Huber is a huge award winner. This is my 6th Huber book. I expect more.

Also, "else" does not have a tz in it, and the t in "often" is silent.

Almost gave up.

Writing was concise but it seemed to really drag on too long. Story was too predictable but accurate in how someone feels that’s been betrayed.

Great story fantastic narrator

Usually I read my books but being in LA I spent so much time on the road and thought that might be a way to make it easier. It turned out to be immersing experience and I followed up with another book by the same author and not less important read by the same narrator.

excruciating detail

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. It takes place mostly inside the woman's head.

Did Hillary Huber do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

yes. more than she needed to.

Super Depressing

This book was so harrowing I could not finish it. It is beautifully written but I would not recommend it if you're in a fragile mental state.

Deeply personal and moving story

This book was so visceral and intense as you experience a woman's journey through a life changing experience. It left me at times devastated and at others, hopeful. The narrator was great as well. Highly recommend.

Enthralling, Depressing, Major Plot Holes

I coudnt break myself away bc the writing was good, yet there was no character development and many plot holes. Like glossing over the fact that her husband quite literally groomed a 15 year old child and then married her when she was of age. And Olga seemed to have no qualms about it. It wasn't even mentioned, in fact, this young girl was made out to be the villain instead. I also felt no sympathy for the main character bc she was unlikable. The writing was also unnecessarily graphic at times. It mad be cringe and I am I no way a "prude".
Either way, the writing is good, but the story and characters are selfish and unrealistically flawed.

Elena Ferrante never misses

This book tore my heart apart, then slowly put it back together, the healing process helped me a lot with metabolising my own heartbreak.
Also the narrator is phenomenal, I want every Elena Ferrante book to be read by her.
