An excellent WWII resistance novel
I've read numerous novels of varying quality about World War II resistance movements and this is one of the best. It's richly flavored with the culture, geography, history and mythology of Crete. The characters are interesting and complex with just enough backstory to make them believable. Some are warped, some tempered by the adversity of war. There are complicated relationships, love, loss and ultimately triumph.
The narration was very good. Definitely a worthwhile book.

Just a strange book
I came so close to giving up on reading it many times as I listened. What was the purpose of the stuttering of Jack? I appreciate it is a disability, but I did not feel it was necessary to the story and made it difficult to listen to. Overall, quite disappointing.
