Publisher's summary

This is the completionist's edition of the work of H.P. Lovecraft! Literally every single weird-fiction story he wrote, revised, or collaborated on - to the best of our knowledge - is in this one enormous volume.

The stories are arranged chronologically and contextualized with a brief running biography of the life of this fascinating author. If you're new to Lovecraft, reading or listening to this book will make you enough of an expert on his life and work to hold your own in any conversation. If you only own one H.P. Lovecraft collection, it should probably be this one.

In addition to The Call of Cthulhu (of course), this edition includes:

  • At the Mountains of Madness
  • The Shadow Over Innsmouth
  • The Mound (with Zealia Bishop)
  • The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
  • Pickman's Model
  • The Horror in the Museum (with Hazel Heald)
  • The Thing on the Doorstep
  • The Whisperer in Darkness
  • Two Black Bottles (with Wilfred Blanch Talman)
  • The Dunwitch Horror
  • The Colour out of Space
  • The Night Ocean (with R.H. Barlow)
  • The Dreams in the Witch-House
  • Cool Air
  • The Trap (with Henry S. Whitehead)
  • The Rats in the Walls
  • The Shunned House
  • Under the Pyramids (with Harry Houdini)
  • In the Vault
  • The Silver Key
  • The Horror at Martin's Beach (with Sonia Haft Green)
  • The Music of Erich Zann
  • Herbert West, Reanimator
  • The Disinterment (with Duane W. Rimel)
  • The Outsider
  • The Other Gods
  • And several dozen more.

For Lovecraft’s Fans

This encompasses most of Lovecraft’s writings. There are several different versions. Some come in 2 or 3 parts from the same publisher. This seems to be the best for the money. The narrator is just average. Check out some of the other comprehensive books, especially from the Lovecraftian Society. That one has more enthusiastic narrators.

Treasure Trove of Dark I-magic-nation

Huge portal into the great Lovecraft Void, very fun and accessible though erudite. F.J.D. John's enthusiasm is obvious and infectious. Travel back to a much more imaginative epoch and hear of cosmic deeps and abysses where deepest time itself is just meaningless myth. Turn out the lights!

Over and over again

The best book I have ever read and or listened to. I must currently be on my fifth round with Audible. John Finn is the perfect narrator for HPL!

Classics read right by Finn John

I've read a collection of Lovecraft before this, but it has been a while, so I thought I would give one of my favorite Audible readers, Finn John, a try. The reading is perfectly matched for the author. I was surprised that the collection includes not only stories that Lovecraft wrote himself, but also works that he assisted, or ghost wrote for. On top of that, you are provided insight about Lovecraft's life at the time that each work was written.

Potential Fix

So Listening to this i enjoyed it however a fix that i saw could find was the timing of certain chapter for me were way off as the Dagon Story ran into Intro: A Reminisce of Dr. Samuel Johnson chapter and that chapter ran into the Intro: Nemesis chapter and every chapter after that followed those one followed suite.

Good road trip listen

A good listen. Really enjoyed finding all the available works in one volume. I could do without the discussions about each story but it's easy enough to skip.

The chapter titles don't match the content.

A wonderful and complete collection

This by far tge most complete Lovecraft audio collection to which I've had the pleasure of listening. Granted it could have been 1000% better had these fantastic stories been read by more than the single narrator. Still, this narrator does a good enough job to make listening entertaining though he sometimes slips into monotone.

A true master of his sub genre

If you can overlook the racism, there is a reason this writer and his emulators have subsisted this long and have created entire genres. Not only was he amazing at creating a suddenly horror, atmosphere, mythology, and history that could, if you squint, just so, I have existed, but also new mechanics of writing and was a renaissance man. His writing of geology and other sciences seem to be spot on of all the riders, contemporary to him, and subsequent, including robbery, Howard, Clark, Ashton Smith, and mainly Wade Wellman, who are my favorites of all time, HP Lovecraft takes top billing by a wide margin, if you like, subtle, cerebral whore, rather than crass “jump, scares“ or gory hack, and slash blood baths, you should really give this writer, and this, the collection of all of his extent works by chance. While some of the stories, especially the collaborations, and the ghost writing, might not be to your liking, I think if you like horror, most of these will be. Take care and happy reading!
