Publisher's summary

A memoir from one of the most admired players in baseball, the captain of the New York Mets, David Wright

David Wright played his entire Major League Baseball career for one team, the team he dreamed of playing for as a kid: the New York Mets.

A quick fan favorite from Virginia who then earned his stripes in New York, Wright came back time and again from injury and demonstrated the power of hard work, total commitment, and an infinite love of the game.

Wright’s stats are one thing. He was a seven-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He holds many Mets franchise records and was nicknamed "Captain America" after his performance in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. But there is more: The walk-offs. The Barehand. The Subway Series and World Series home runs. And the electricity that swept through Shea Stadium then Citi Field whenever number 5, “the Captain”, was in the game.

Awesome Book

This is a perfect mixture of serious moments, laughs and tears. I was never a Mets fan but had a lot of respect for David Wright. This book just proves how great of a guy he is on and off the field. A must listen!

Wonderful!

David Wright, such a great face of the Mets and baseball and amazingly humble. I really enjoyed the insight into different aspects of his career and the overall team. Also getting to know David's relationships with other players, coaches and admins. Not to mention was always a big fan since my favorite childhood player was HoJo and got to learn more about him and his influence.

Thank you David!

Literal Chills

As a life long Mets fan who grew up watching Wright, this book was a fantastic window into his life and career. David’s descriptions of the 2006 and 2015 post-seasons gave me literal chills as I relived some of my favorite moments with a new perspective. A must listen for any Mets fan that is made even better by an excellent narration. LGM!

Great book for Mets fans and ALL baseball fans!

I always admired David Wright throughout his career and this book only enhanced those feelings. I never realized the full extent of how much pain he endured from all his injuries, all relating back to his spinal stenosis. I'm 69 y/o and a lifelong (life of the Mets that is) Mets fan, and David is most certainly in the top 3 of my favorite Mets, along with Tom Seaver, and now Jacob DeGrom. Thanks, Captain!
