Good Story, Part of Narration Needs Work

So ... I've reviewed the other installments, but it's clear my reviews posted way after it would have made a difference for this installment. In that light, Graphic Audio must also have known what problems it was creating as ... MOST of those were fixed in this last book. Kip still sounded more like Tom Holland with an occasional dash of Pee Wee Herman, at times ... and he started off as snarky as in the other books, but the acting settled down and some of the gravitas required for the story came out. They didn't need to change the acting for Iron Fists, but it still worked. Overall, you get the weight of the words, the feel of the action and the feeling that they finally understood what they were reading so that the acting could be consistent therewith.

Howie Mandell told a story about his audition for the TV show "St. Elsewhere": he's a comedian and he was auditioning for the part of a doctor and, well ... he read his part as though it was to be humorous. He almost didn't get the part. They told him he was referring to serious ailments, diseases and subject matter, and then gave him a chance to do it again. He nailed it. Book 5 seems like it too Graphic Audio four books to understand the script but, in book five, they pretty much nailed it. It's unfortunate they spent so much money and time with the wrong approach of the other books ... which I'll never listen to again. But, I can at least add Book 5 of Graphic Audio's version to the wonderful experience of the Simon Vance version, and ending on a high note allowed me to recapture my love of the series (and how the GA version was making me think poorly of the entire series INCLUDING the Simon Vance version ... to me it was that bad).

I believe the actors were doing their best with the direction they were given, but ... I am glad this last book tried to do it better. WHICH IT DID. Slow on the uptake, but on point once it got there ...

voice actor changes never easy for anyone

it's not fair to say the voice actors are bad, they aren't. at all. the voice actor for kip is great, but the voice does not fit kip and I'm not saying that because it's different from the last, I would have thought it didn't fit in the first books too. his performance is awesome though and normally I won't listen when voice actors are changed but the fact that I stayed should speak for the actors talents, but changing voices on listeners is never easy on anyone including the new voice actors who have to listen to people complain when they are just doing their job and giving their all it isn't fair to blame those guys!! Great book and ending!!

It was annoying that certain voice actors changed and that names were constantly mispronounced

Series is great! Except one character

Love the story line but! I cannot stand Tia. I skip over her now after hearing her incompetence in her head a hundred times.

Missing?

Am I missing a part to this? Why does it just start in the middle of the story?

Sound mixing needs work

Sometimes the background sounds drowned out the main words. I’d almost rather have listened to the original reading. Could be a lot better with better sound editing.

Fantastic series!

A great ending to a really great series, ends on a happy note with about most of the important and a lot of small things tied up. Which is fine, I enjoy such endings if they feel like they earned it and if it fits the series, and the ending fit and was earned. Brent Weeks really showing his future potential with this series, for hit next works.

But what made this series amazing and especially memorable, was the full cast, music, and sound effects that really gave the series color and life. Of course if you want a more traditional read there is the single narrator version available, but hey, give this version a try. It is very nice both versions, the dramatized and traditional, are available since I'll probably buy both if I like a series enough and I have done so before.

I normally don't really feel like writing reviews unless I absolutely hate a book, love it or it if it speaks to me, and the Graphic Audio guys made me really, really enjoy this series overall. I'm really glad that they were able to keep consistency with the voice actors with the key characters as much as they could. I hope they do more fantasy series cause I'll buy em in a heartbeat, seriously hooked and spoiled by the quality now. Again, the voice actors, really did a fantastic job, love the passion by them!

The only criticism's I could have was that some of the early books done by them have some audio balance issues where it can be difficult to hear the characters because of the music being louder then them, and some enunciations issues where I can't tell what words they might have said, but that can be forgiven depending on the situations the characters are in. But other then that and some other minor stuff the quality is very high.

Changing voice actors

I was truly in love with all the voices from the first 4 books but struggled with the sudden change in this specific installment
