Publisher's summary

The deck bucked under her feet, and she was hurtled backwards on to the bunk again, and the blast of a massive explosion ripped through the ship. 'What is happening?' she screamed.

Love in a time of war. Hope in a time of danger.

One of the greatest fighter pilots of the Great War, Michael Courtney is saved by the French noblewoman Centaine de Thiry when he crashes near her home. Soon after, Centaine finds herself alone and carrying Michael's child and must travel across the ocean to join his family in South Africa.

But no journey is ever simple, and a pregnant Centaine finds herself shipwrecked in shark-infested waters off Africa's notorious Skeleton Coast, a deadly swim away from the sun-bleached desert that will see her defenceless and alone. When hope arrives, she has no way of knowing if she will be saved - or left in greater danger than ever before....

Loving this series

Can’t get enough of Wilbur, Sean and South Africa. Wilbur’s research, story telling and characters are first rate and Sean’s readings ring totally authentic.

Excellent story

This is one of the best stories my wife & I have read together. I wish someone like Clint Eastwood or Kevin Costner would make it into a movie!!

The way the bushmen survive in the desert is amazing.

Can’t stop reading.

Love the stories but just when you are loving a character or story line tragedy strikes. No one leaves unscathed. Great adventure story and am inspired by these characters.

Good

For me parts of this book were slow. However, being a Courtney fan this is a must read. it still deserves a 5 rating!

Riveting

A riveting story from beginning to end, although it ended rather abruptly. Need to buy the sequel to see what happens.

Great book. Great author.

One of Smith’s best books in my opinion. Love the characters in this series and this builds on the Courtney saga.

Don’t agree with protagonist

The book and the reader, of course, earn five stars. However, I do not understand without trying to do a spoiler alert why the young lady and question did not talk to the man in question about the actions of the man. It just seems so stupid and avoidable that’s all I can say without spoiling the plot.

Excellent story in a great series.

Although lacking the personal connection I especially felt in the preceding books, this was a great story, that left me hanging a bit. Won't divulge why....

outstanding performance

book 4 in the Courtney series for me veered into the realm of soap opera story telling but i loved it still, though maybe not as much as the previous 3 books in the series

Real Psge Turner!

Don't start if you csn't spend sime time with
Cobstaurs, a young lady who is only 17 at the beginnungs of the book, taking place in world War 1 France. Your sttention to finding out the resolutuin of the next crisis in it, will she make it?? She has strength in many a crisis' but will she continue to be brave?
