Masterful Storytelling!
A fresh narrative style, detailed but clearly stated mythology and complex cast of engaging and interesting characters. Jemison's storytelling continues to grow by leaps and bounds in this second book in the trilogy.

Narrator is wonderful.
Story is complex and I was very glad I had recently finished book one so I could link the back stories pretty easily. Author has an incredible command of language and I loved the POV..made it feel like she was telling me a story ..not that it was a book being read. I listen to a lot of audio books and this narrator is among the best in my opinion.

A divine story that turns fantasy on its head
The trials and tribulations gone through this book are absolutely riveting to listen to voiced by Casaundra. She perfectly encapsulates the absolutely delicious story that Jemisin has provided.
She stretches our understanding of fantasy to the bounds of it's limits and shows us new beyonds to reach to. I'm enraptured in her works and am excited to jump into the next book in the series.

An amazing book
N. Jemisin is a amazing science fiction/fantasy writer. She intermingles deep science in an explainable way mixed with a wonderful fantasy world that is very realistic in that it could even be our planet 100’s even 1000’s of years in the fourrure.
Casaunsra Freeman is perfect for this series.
I looked up her other books she’s narrated because she is that good.

I loooved this! Usually second novels in a fantasy series are awkward in some way as the characters we grew to know from the first book move into a new plot. But this was fantastic. The Three anchor the story, but don't take away from it. I loved Oree and her journey in this book. It was so interesting viewing this world system from a different lens. I was surprised by so many moments in this book so I truly love that.

N K has such an amazing and singular voice in this genre and the way she brings me to love and tears with her beautiful characters and writing isn't fair!! I often find myself realizing, belatedly, the cleverness and carefulness of her writing. Cannot wait to read everything she's ever published.

Even better than book one!
Sometimes when a second book has a new protagonist I worry I won't be as enamored, but I was immediately drawn into Oree's story, this new view of the world, and the twists and turns of this smart, surprising plot. So excited to read the third! Oh, and the narrator is fantastic.
