Publisher's summary

Revenge is only justice when it can be administered without hatred.

Welcome to the Tora star system, home of the spectacular Cardinal-4 space station overlooking Amulen and Banor, twin worlds that share the same orbit. One visit and you'll understand why this station is the pinnacle of Torian achievement and a wonder of the Erobian Sphere.

Unfortunately, your timing isn't great. Many centuries of peace and prosperity are on the verge of collapsing for members of the Erob coalition as signs of the first interstellar wars loom. The half-breeds tell us it is because we are now forsaking the ancient law, and have thus allowed an evil infection to begin spreading through the galaxy. But those Erob half-breeds have always been a little over-dramatic, haven't they?

Brandon Foss, an unhappily married Virginian in his early 30s, awakes from a strange dream to discover he has been abducted from Earth and kept in cryonic preservation on Amulen for two decades. One other resuscitated human is with him, a real knucklehead who almost seems as alien to Brandon as their reptilian captors. A friendship of convenience forms as the two Earthlings soon become unwittingly intertwined in Torian politics and military affairs - at a time, it turns out, when the Torians desperately need just such intertwining.

This full-length space-adventure novel has been professionally edited and specially formatted for all Kindle devices (including the latest Torian lightpads). We promise a smooth and enjoyable electronic reading experience, complete with a click-able table of contents. Download it today and embark upon your own personal test of magnitude.

Mechanical voice

When I first started listening I thought characters were all androids. Then I realized it was just an android reader. Very deadpan, grating, and hard on the ears. No sincerity or depth of emotion. Was convincing for the hard-nosed military types and bad guys, though. And androids.

Great story, though, and I look forward to Book 2. Sounds like it will have a few live female characters. This one had 1. Right at the end.

A Whole New Universe

Would you listen to Test of Magnitude again? Why?

Yup....and I intend to, just before getting the next one. Unfortunately, that's not available yet.

What other book might you compare Test of Magnitude to and why?

Stars Wars...actually not sure that ever made it into book form but that's the kind of incredibly detailed Universe that's created here.

What does James Killavey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Really brought it to life. This is the third book I've heard of his and he does not disappoint.
First time I heard him do "voices." ( The other two were non-fiction.) Was really pleased with his versitility

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No ... too long. Made for a wonderful commute for about a week, though.

Any additional comments?

Why aren't the next two in the series in audio?

Great sci-fi story

What did you love best about Test of Magnitude?

The fact that it's now in audio. I actually downloaded the Kindle version a few days ago but simply have not had the time to get very far. Was delighted to see it in audio. If anything it's even better than the text version. There are a few "typos" in the text version which have been fixed in the audio and the reader does an excellent job of bring the story to life. My only complaint...Just checked and the other two books in the series are not yet in audiobook form yet. Hoping that will change soon. Already know I want all three.

What other book might you compare Test of Magnitude to and why?

Not books but has elements of both Star Wars and Star Trek while, at the same time creating a whole marvelous world of its own. Great story, marvelous characters. Been a long time since I read a sci-fi story this good.

Have you listened to any of James Killavey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have. He's one of my favorite narrators. Does good character voices without going "over the top."

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Original title sounds fine to me.

Any additional comments?

Just got this, early this morning before going to work, and between commuting, exercise and other "no-brainier" tasks, I'm already half way done.

Imaginative story!

I enjoyed this story very much, it seemed different from most of the sci-fi I have read, and I am a sci-fi fan. The narrator was able to do many different voices, making it easy to discern which character was speaking. I am looking forward to "reading" the next installment.

Excellent sci-fi s story

If you could sum up Test of Magnitude in three words, what would they be?

action-packed, thought-provoking, fascinating

What was one of the most memorable moments of Test of Magnitude?

There were a lot of them. Two that stand out are the two humans gradually figuring out what had happened to them and the suspense filled space battle.

What does James Killavey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a great job with the character voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but...much too long.

Any additional comments?

This is one of those books where I found myself driving the long way home or sometimes around the block a few times just so I could keep listening. It is both an incredibly entertaining story and a thought provoking one dealing with intergalactic intrigue, alien abductions, Star wars type battles and suspense etc. etc. Can't say a lot more without giving plot elements away. Suffice it to say it's a wonderful sci-fi story. I hope the other two books in the trilogy will be out soon. With my hectic schedule I seldom have time to sit down and read so audio books are the way to go for me. Very pleased with this one.

Really GREAT sci-fi story

Where does Test of Magnitude rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best.

What other book might you compare Test of Magnitude to and why?

A little like Star Wars in some places.

Have you listened to any of James Killavey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Good reader and I thought he did a nice job with the many character voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Actually, there were a lot of them.

Any additional comments?

This story has elements of both Star Wars and Star Trek but still manages to be
highly original. It has good aliens and bad aliens who all have great depth of
character. And...two humans who were abducted years ago and end up fighting for
the good aliens. It even has holy men ( or, holy aliens, actually ) with the
gift of prophecy. Don't want to give away the plot line except to say it
was a terrific listen. Can't wait for Book 2 to come out in audio

EVERYTHING! The author created a whole new and very realistic Universe.

What did you like best about this story?

The interplay of the somewhat befuddled humans..at first..and the aliens.

Which scene was your favorite?

Battle Scene at the end..kind of reminded me of Star Wars.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was too long for that.

Any additional comments?

Glad to see they have the second Volume...off to get it!
