Publisher's summary

When a dystopian government controls every aspect of society, siblings Wisty and Whit Allgood may be the world's only hope in this magical beginning of James Patterson's Witch & Wizard series.

The world is changing: the government has seized control of every aspect of society, and now, kids are disappearing. For 15-year-old Wisty and her older brother Whit, life turns upside down when they are torn from their parents one night and slammed into a secret prison for no reason they can comprehend. The New Order, as it is known, is clearly trying to suppress Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Being a Normal Teenager. But while trapped in this totalitarian nightmare, Wisty and Whit discover they have incredible powers they'd never dreamed of. Can this newly minted witch and wizard master their skills in time to save themselves, their parents—and maybe the world?

The beginning is the end?

A flashback to the end, and it is exactly as it begin. That really pissed me off! You wanted to know what ended at the flash black, and it didn’t do that it just left you hanging! Pun intended. Other than that the book was OK.

entertaining

Gabrielle and James put together an entertaing, gripping story to listen or read. Really helped pass the time either on a long car ride or on a treadmill.
This one and Murder Club are my favorite.

A book for young adults

Narrators did an excellent job and were a great match to the characters in this book. However, the book itself is a few levels below the reading level I expected. Definitely should be aimed more at young adults as there isn't much to the plot, and given the age of the characters.

fun, exciting, very teen

Witt and Wisteria wake up to the sounds of soldiers footsteps as men and one high school aged snitch take the loving family out of their home declaring all of them to be deviants. The brother and sister are taken away and it's non stop nightmares for the two of them. Fantastical, Witchery ensues. Fun! more for young people than adults. great narrations.

"lock them up"

thought I was reading some potter-esque drama that was pretty good until the last 2 minutes... when I caught the warning in there about leadership taking us down dangerous paths far too often.

Like this

This was a good book. Definitely a kid one, teenager mostly but still good. Only thing I don’t like is the music at the end of the chapters. They could of done without that.

Loved this book!

James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. His books flow smoothly, keeps me engaged from the very first page until the very end. The twist and turns show up just when I think I have the plot figured out, and never wastes my time with I nonsense repetitiveness that so many new authors do. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
