Unwholly

Thanks to Connor, Lev, and Risa—and their high-profile revolt at Happy Jack Harvest Camp—people can no longer turn a blind eye to unwinding. Ridding society of troublesome teens while simultaneously providing much-needed tissues for transplant might be convenient, but its morality has finally been brought into question. However, unwinding has become big business, and there are powerful political and corporate interests that want to see it not only continue, but also expand.

Publisher's Summary

It’s finally here. The long-awaited sequel to the bestselling Unwind, which Publishers Weekly called a “gripping, brilliantly imagined futuristic thriller.”

However, unwinding has become big business, and there are powerful political and corporate interests that want to see it not only continue, but also expand to the unwinding of prisoners and the impoverished.

Cam is a product of unwinding; made entirely out of the parts of other unwinds, he is a teen who does not technically exist. A futuristic Frankenstein, Cam struggles with a search for identity and meaning and wonders if a rewound being can have a soul. And when the actions of a sadistic bounty hunter cause Cam’s fate to become inextricably bound with the fates of Connor, Risa, and Lev, he’ll have to question humanity itself.

Rife with action and suspense, this riveting companion to the perennially popular Unwind challenges assumptions about where life begins and ends—and what it means to live.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unwholly?

The ending is such a cliff hanger...Is it weird that I hope Risa and Cam wind (no pun intended) up together?

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

The reader was expressive and held my interest. I have enjoyed his work in other books too.

    Any additional comments?

Very good listen but not sure if it truly compares to Unwind but I must say Neal is an amazing author! Keep em' coming Neal...

I am a life long Geek, Musician, and Writer ... and Audible just makes reading that much better because now I can "read" even when I might have time, but not the option, like driving and things like that.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, it's an amazing story that will make you think, that will touch you deeply and besides all that it's just a darn good story with marvelous characters.

What did you like best about this story?

I don't know if I can pick just one thing, the whole story was amazing from start to finish, I desperately didn't want it to end. This sounds silly, but what I liked best was that it was a continuation from the first one, I wanted more of the story and this was it. I also loved the message of redemption.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have, this one is at least as good, maybe even better. Regardless, it was AWEsome.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When I realized something about one of the characters ... before the story explained it. I was shocked, intrigued, horrified, amazed ... all that once.

    Any additional comments?

Read UnWind first, and then read this one. It's an order! You won't regret it, I promise.

"Not as good as the first novel but still gripping"

This second installment isn't as spellbinding as the first but is a have to listen if you've started the series.

Shusterman has a way of writing his characters that brings them to life. (Poor pun there and unintentional). For a YA dystopian story there is a great deal of sophisticated yet traditional teen angst in this book. The characters are the misfits of their towns, for the most part and are full of anger for the way they feel they have been treated.

Recommended if you're into the series.

What did you like best about Unwholly? What did you like least?

This story got very bogged down in the middle. I had to turn it off for a couple of days. Luckily the author had developed the characters enough that I turned the book back on just to see what happened to every one.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Ending? There was no ending. The book is obviously a "to be continued".

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

    He was fine.

"A great sequel in this series!"

I went directly from book one to the next and it as nice to find that this book keeps up the pace with the first one, the author doesn't drop the ball at all!! The only thing was that for some reason I thought in the first we chapters that they had changed the narrator. The reading felt a little forced, with an annoying sardonic tone that wasn't really necessary in some cases. I think the narrator gets better after chapter 7 or 8, though, getting back to his previous approach to the voices and the narration.

    "Good follow up"

Not quite as good as the first book but still very engrossing. Some new characters introduced and a new situation going on, some of which was good, some not so much. I'm not impressed with the fact that the author has given his three heros saint status and a holier than thou attitude but overall I still enjoyed the story.

It is my favorite after the first book unwind

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He really know how to keep you interested in the story and he gives the feeling of the characters even more by giving each one certain accent, voice and vocals.

I am considering listening to other books performed by him

    Any additional comments?

Overall Love this book so much if you haven't listen to unwind yet you should along with the second part
