Publisher's summary

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole. She was crowned Queen of the Red Court and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the boy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly appealing Morpheus. Now all she has to do is graduate high school.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn't show up at school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland - where she (partly) belongs.

Could she leave Jeb and her parents behind again, for the sake of a man she knows has manipulated her before? Will her mother and Jeb trust her to do what's right? Listeners will swoon over the satisfying return to Howard's bold, sensual reimagining of Carroll's classic.

Awesome!!!

I liked the first book, Splintered. I really liked this one. The series is a riff on Alice in Wonderland mixed with the teen angst, love triangle of Twilight. I can picture the Team Jeb and Team Morpheus shirts. I had to stop listening when it got too angsty for me, that's the problem with being in your 30's and still listening/reading YA fiction. Once I got over wanting to slap Alyssa for being a whiner I really got into it. Rebecca Gibel is the perfect narrator for this book. Great book!

trilogy

I listened to this trilogy because all three books + the novella collection were available to borrow on Audible Plus. This trilogy introduced me to this author and now I am hooked! I will definitely be purchasing this and other books by this author in the near future. Thank you!

Either way, I win

After the first book, we've learned that Alyssa has become the Queen of the Red Court and Jeb does not remember his trip down the rabbit hole where he risked his life to save Alyssa; Morpheus, her childhood friend, is forever manipulative, and we're never sure if he loves Alyssa or is using her.

Start Book 2: Morpheus comes to the human realm to ask Alyssa to come back to save Wonderland from disaster; she doesn't want to go because she wants to talk to/be with Jeb. Stop. Wait. Making out with your boy toy is more important than saving Wonderland from all its suffering? Gosh.. Thankfully, Morpheus is persistent in his request, and that's our jumping off point for this book.

Positive: The narration is amazing. I love the voice of Morpheus and I want him to come visit me in my dreams and read me bedtime stories.

Negative:
(1) There is too much of teen angst/drama.
(2) The way Alyssa behaves is to cliche, and it's exhausting. After listening to the first hour or two, I found myself wondering if was worth listening to her over reacting and being generally overly dramatic.
(3) Then we have to deal with the possessive, insecure and aggressive Jeb way more than we did last time.

Alyssa is clearly in two very abusive relationships, with both Jeb and Morpheus, and I think it's unhealthy to let young girls read this and think that kind of behavior is okay. The way they act towards her is unacceptable. If she were to take a "Are you in an emotionally abusive relationship?" quiz, the answer would be "YES", across the board.

**

TLDR: This book is unoriginal and redundant but a happy waste of time if you can suffer through excessive teenage insecurity. The narration is great. I'll still listen to the next one because I just need to know how it ends.

Meh...

I really enjoyed the first book. Overall the story is a good one. In this book however Alyssa really really gets on my nerves. Most of the book is her whining and being the last to figure out anything. I’m invested to make it to the end of the series now, but I really am tired of how slow and dramatic Alyssa is.

Plot twists!

When I saw that this was a twist on Alice in wonderland I was immediately intrigued. I love all things Alice and thought I had read and seen them all. Splintered drew me in with every trim of events. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, something else entirely happened and kept me in. This book was no different. A little slower than the first but just as good. Left me wanting more! It was so easy to get sucked into their world.

Darker Than Book One

This second book in the Splintered series is a little weirder than the first even though it is wholly set here in the modern world.

It’s exactly a year after the events of the first book and Wonderland is in chaos. Alyssa struggles to keep the two parts of herself in check. The human half of her heart is devoted to Jeb, her family’s blossoming new dynamic, and the future she’s been dreaming of in London as soon as she graduates. But the Netherland Queen half of her heart longs to give in to her budding powers, Morpheus’s increasingly hard to ignore advances, Wonderland and everything it has to offer...
On top of all that she’ll be fighting old enemies and new while still managing to make it to prom!

So in Love with this Series

I am so in love with this series. The addition of having her mom becoming more in the series was a delight and I highly enjoyed that. Rebecca does an amazing job with being a narrator for the book. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Can't wait until the next one.
