    "Unique and Engrossing"

Undermountain is a truly unique YA story, a real breath of fresh air in a stagnant haze of vampires, werewolves and forced love triangles.

It plays hard on the one-of-a kind and extremely high-concept premise, going so far beyond the realms of believability that you can just sit back and be drawn into it.

The action comes fast and constant. The book takes off in less than 20 minutes – a real rarity these days. By switching POV’s the author has ensured we’re always following something of interest and by keeping the story relatively simple you are easily hooked in. I personally read the 10hr book in a solid 7 hour block day 1 and 3 hour block day 2 – I never wanted to put it down.

Undermountain also doesn’t obviously set up a trilogy like so many YA books do now meaning we get a true resolution and not a frustrating cliff-hanger!

Despite the pace, the diverse cast of teen characters are painted deftly and thoroughly.

This is clearly a real skill of the writer – you get an instant understanding of each characters’ truly individual personality and life with only a few sparse lines carefully sprinkled in. No clunky backstory is dropped like an anvil, no overly-politically correct or clichéd statements that uncomfortably flag the racially diverse group (and it is by the way!).
I absolutely recommend Undermountain, especially to those who need a change of pace in the YA genre.

All too often I’m let down by books and give a tepid, ‘if-you-like-the-things-I-hated-then-maybe’ recommendation so I am thrilled to have been so impressed and engrossed in Undermountian that I urge everyone to check it out!

"A Great Tale From Under the Mountain"
Where does Undermountain rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Undermountain is an interesting novel that translates well to audio format. It has plenty of action, and deals with some big issues without apology. I never thought it was slow-paced, something that can happen with audiobooks, so it ranks highly among other audiobooks I've listened to before.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Undermountain?

One of the most memorable moments involved the reveal of why the novel is called "Undermountain" in the first place. I don't want to give anything away, but it was gripping, and filled with great description.

Have you listened to any of Maxwell Glick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am familiar with some of Maxwell Glick's other performances, and he always does a fantastic job. He's relentless and flawless, and is fantastic at creating separate characters with his voice. This audiobook is no exception.

    Story
    "Bigfoot Lore with a Twist"
What did you love best about Undermountain?

I love that Bigfoot lore or legends as it were used in such a unique way!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Danny Michaelson is one of my favorite characters. He went from a whiny teenager to a natural born leader from the beginning of the story to the end of story. He shows remarkable courage in the face of many obstacles that would have left Bronson, another hiker, too busy complaining about his situation.

What does Maxwell Glick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Maxwell Glick brought an unique voicing to several characters such as Shiv, Danny, Breyona, and Wa. He made the characters stand out on their own. He gave voices to certain characters such as Shaggy and Grizz that my own imagination left kinda blank.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was easily done in one sitting yet could take longer if need be.
