Publisher's summary

In the third book of the "Bloody Jack" series, unlikely heroine Jacky Faber, a pirate at heart, returns to the sea in a truly swashbuckling tale filled with good humour, wit, and courage.

After leaving the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston - under dire circumstances, of course - Jacky boards a whaling ship bound for London, where she hopes to find her beloved Jaimy.

But things don't go as planned, and she is off on a wild misadventure at sea. She thwarts the lecherous advances of a crazy captain, rallies the sailors to her side, and ultimately gains command of a ship in His Majesty's Royal Navy. But Jacky's adventures don't end there....

Soon she is being called a pirate, and there's a price on her head!

as always the story of Jackie Faber was the best,

loved it as all previous volume this volume took on the great adventures of this plucky girl and this volume was one we saw her reach heights of happiness and of sadness but each time she grew and developed as a person, this volume was a constant rooting to see how far she can go and far she did, but her luck always follows her but you will see, enjoy

Another thrilling binge listen

I couldn't bare to stop listening I can never resist a story thst is well read anything narrated by Kellergren is always great I wish books had ratings because even though this book is written from a young girl's point of view I would not want my girls to read the story some of the portions are fairly racy and a little old for my girls

Best book in the series (so far!)

I absolutely LOVE this series, and especially this third book. I have to admit I got a bit annoyed with Jacky when she was landlocked in the second book, but in Under the Jolly Roger, she is back at sea, and the story is the most exciting one yet (and I think the best in the series, having now listened to all of them up to Book 7, The Rapture of the Deep). There were parts that had me cheering out loud and clapping, or covering my mouth in horror as I listened to this on my commute and around the house. Kellgren continues to dazzle with her narration -she one of the best narrators out there, and in fact is definitely more of an actress than a reader. Each book is a real performance, and it's like I'm watching a movie in my head while she reads. It's amazing how well she even does the male characters - I forget that I'm listening to one female doing all the parts - it feels like a full cast.

I had no problem waiting a month for my new credits between the first and second book, and the second and third book, but when Under the Jolly Roger reached it's breathtaking conclusion, there was no possible way I could wait, and ended up buying the fourth book sans credits, and it was well worth it, as I've now listened to the third and fourth books twice each.

Don't hesitate to buy this audiobook - it is Jacky Faber at her most resourceful and brilliant, and the entire cast of characters is fantastic - from the loyal Werewolves, to the wonderful and trusty Higgins (I wish I had my own Higgins!!), to the gaspingly evil villain Captain Scroggs. The final scenes of the book are easily the most beautiful and dramatic of the entire series thus far. This book is not to be missed.

I can't stop listening!!

I had ignored this series despite my love of Historical and particularly Nautical Fiction (I count Dewey Lambdin and Dan Parkinson two of my favorite authors) due to the fact that it was considered a young adult title. Boy was I wrong for ignoring it. this series grabs you by the ears and makes you want to continue listening to the adventures of this plucky waif who makes the most of any situation. This is one series where I literally could not stop listening. A lot has been said about Katherine Kellgren's reading on this series and she deserves every bit of praise she has received, she breathed life into all of the characters until you couldn't help but feel you were listening directly to their voices and feeling their emotions. This is one series that I will not be deleting off my computer, as I know I will want to listen to it again someday.

Like a big bowl of ice cream.

This series is just plain adorable. Katherine Kellgren's narration is worth a credit on its own. She's marvelous as Jacky. Like a big bowl of ice cream, it's a great treat. But, it's not a meal. I've listened to the first three and I'm done.

As a break in the routine, I've thoroughly enjoyed listening - more because of Kellgren than the rather simplistic plot. But all the talk of mizzen masts and bowsprits makes me long for another listen to the whole Master and Commander series by Patrick O'Brian. With Patrick Tull giving voice to Stephen and Jack, it's a complete meal for sure.
