Publisher's summary

A New York Times best seller! John Sandford and Michele Cook debut a high-octane thriller series about a ruthless corporation, unspeakable experiments, and a fight to expose the truth. Perfect for fans of James Dashner's The Maze Runner.

Shay Remby arrives in Hollywood with $58 and a handmade knife, searching for her brother, Odin.

Odin’s a brilliant hacker but a bit of a loose cannon. He and a group of radical animal-rights activists hit a Singular Corp. research lab in Eugene, Oregon. The raid was a disaster, but Odin escaped with a set of highly encrypted flash drives and a post-surgical dog.

When Shay gets a frantic 3 a.m. phone call from Odin - talking about evidence of unspeakable experiments, and a ruthless corporation, and how he must hide - she’s concerned. When she gets a menacing visit from Singular’s security team, she knows: Her brother’s a dead man walking.

What Singular doesn’t know - yet - is that 16-year-old Shay is every bit as ruthless as their security force, and she will burn Singular to the ground, if that’s what it takes to save her brother.

Beware of narrator

The narrator was terrible. She made all male characters sound like junior high boys and all the females sound either ditzy or ominous. One star is an exaggeration.

Different, but good :)

Had a younger feel, and bc I’m old school, I almost stopped but a great story will not let that happen (thank goodness) and I was hooked with the story, characters, everything !! I’m ready for next one!

Narrator needs a better director or more experience

I liked the storyline and the narration speed is spot on in my opinion. Her voice is pleasant enough. However, her delivery needs work. She can’t quite seem to nail the emotion of the scene she’s reading and her flow is jagged - it does’t flow from one moment to the next. Rather it’s more like this person says this... then this one says this... but there’s no flow of emotions in the inflections in her delivery. I think she has great potential as a narrator. I feel she needs more experience and the guidance of a good director. I liked the story though.

Animals rights

This story hits on something that apparently needs to be told. I for one am glad to be reading and exposing it. The rights of all creatures is up to all of us. The moral for me is that for people to survive well after injury shouldn’t be at the pain & suffering of another species, human or animal. The readers voice is grating for me with all the voices. Maybe a good word is shrill.

Doesn't read like a Sandford book

Very disappointed. The tone of book and writing didn't feel like Sandford had much to do with writing it. Maybe he just sold his name.

Story great!! Needs different narrator

Really like the storyline... But the narrator makes me think I am "reading a Nancy Drew Mystery" Her male voice imitation is bad ... And since most of the characters are male, why not have a male narrator?

Wish I had not purchased the series

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I can't even finish the first, I will be deleting the other 2 without even trying to listen to them.

Would you ever listen to anything by John Sandford and Michele Cook again?

No.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tara Sands’s performances?

No

What character would you cut from Uncaged?

Twist

Any additional comments?

I have everything John has written. I thoroughly enjoy all of them. But this was just selling his name, on a book that should not have his name on it.

Nothing like typical Sandford

What disappointed you about Uncaged?

The narrator is terrible. Sandford's other books have great narrators who improve the story line.

What was most disappointing about John Sandford and Michele Cook ’s story?

Since they are a married couple, I thought the book would have much of the type of story he writes, however this looks like a book she wrote and he put his name with her to sell it.

What didn’t you like about Tara Sands’s performance?

She is one of the most irritating readers I have listened to.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The reader was so terrible that I didn't finish the book.
