Publisher's Summary

In Turned (Book #1 of the Vampire Journals series), 18-year-old Caitlin Paine finds herself uprooted from her nice suburb and forced to attend a dangerous New York City high school when her Mom moves again. The one ray of light in her new surroundings is Jonah, a new classmate who takes an instant liking to her.

But before their romance can blossom, Caitlin suddenly finds herself changing. She is overcome by a superhuman strength, a sensitivity to light, a desire to feed - by feelings she does not understand. She seeks answers to what's happening to her, and her cravings lead her to the wrong place at the wrong time. Her eyes are opened to a hidden world, right beneath her feet, thriving underground in New York City. She finds herself caught between two dangerous covens, right in the middle of a vampire war.

It is at this moment that Caitlin meets Caleb, a mysterious and powerful vampire who rescues her from the dark forces. He needs her to help lead him to the legendary lost artifact. And she needs him for answers, and for protection. Together, they will need to answer one crucial question: who was her real father?

But Caitlin finds herself caught between two men as something else arises between them: a forbidden love. A love between the races that will risk both of their lives, and will force them to decide whether to risk it all for each other.

What the Critics Say

"Turned is an ideal story for young readers. Morgan Rice did a good job spinning an interesting twist on what could have been a typical vampire tale. Refreshing and unique, Turned has the classic elements found in many Young Adult paranormal stories. Book #1 of the Vampire Journals Series focuses around one girl…one extraordinary girl!... Turned is easy to read but extremely fast-paced.... Recommended for anyone who likes to read soft paranormal romances. Rated PG." (The Romance Reviews)

"Turned grabbed my attention from the beginning and did not let go…. This story is an amazing adventure that is fast paced and action packed from the very beginning. There is not a dull moment to be found. Morgan Rice did an awesome job bringing the reader into the story. She also made it easy to root for Caitlin and want desperately to her succeed in finding her truth…. I will be looking forward to the second book in the series." (Paranormal Romance Guild)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, very much so!- It is edgier and grittier that the other vampire sagas out there. The focused narration by Brianna Knickerbocker perfectly suits the slow build up of the story!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Turned?

The moment when Caitlin realizes this will not be an ordinary move to a new school!

Which character – as performed by Brianna Knickerbocker – was your favorite?

    Caitlin!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire book was very moving- but I loved the initial meeting between Caitlin and Jonah!

    Any additional comments?

can't wait to listen to the next books in the series and hopefully Brianna Knickerbocker will be the narrator!

"Great start to a new series!"

This is such a unique view of the vampire world and a great beginning to the series. It got my attention from the very beginning and I didn't want to stop listening.

Caitlin is 18 and starting another new school. She starts to notice she is changing in strange ways. She is stronger and faster and she is sooo thirsty. She doesn't have a clue whats going on.

Things happen......and Caitlin is running for her life. She is being chased by cops and vampires at the same time.

Caitlin unknowingly gets herself in the middle of a vampire cold-war with only one vampire on her side. Caleb seems to be the dark brooding type and also seems to be bored with his long life until he sees Caitlin survive something she shouldn't be able to.

The characters are interesting, some nice and some are pretty evil. There are lots of good action and fighting scenes throughout the book that I totally enjoyed!

    This is a great book!!

Wife to a wonderful husband and mother to four children, ages 17 to 9 (boys and girls). My husband and I are avid audiobook listeners along with all the kids. Between all of us we have a very eclectic library and try to rate or review as many books as we can.

    "Slow..."

Great story line but the narrator Brianna Knickerbocker was so slow in speaking that I had to turn the speed up to 1 1/2 times just to get through the book. Her voice just dragged and dragged plus I have never met a teenager who spoke that slowly in my life (having two teenage girls). After turning the books speed faster I could finally enjoy the storyline and it had some great twists.

    "Good story"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend it to anyone who's read and liked The Vampire Diaries or anything similar.

This is a good one to move onto. I'm going to see what the other series is like too.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Probably the dead end alley scene. Anyone who has read it will know what I mean. I hate it when people put spoilers in reviews, so no I won't say any spoilers here.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Tried to listen all in one sitting. It isn't too long, but it's not that short.

    Any additional comments?

Too short. Good it's a series.

    "Turned by Morgan Rice"
What did you love best about Turned?

I have a disability and being able to listen to the book instead of reading it was an awesome experience for me.

What other book might you compare Turned to and why?

This is the first book I have had the pleasure to listen to and it was easier than taking the time to read it the first time.

What does Brianna Knickerbocker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I sometimes miss words or phrases and have to read them more than once to be able to understand the whole meaning of the sentences. It was easier to listen to it because if I needed to listen to it again i could just hit the back button and it automatically holds my place for me to pick it up again. Brianna was a great reader, I could understand everything she said. She also has a very pleasing voice. She does a great job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved this book and I cant wait to be able to hear book number two in the Vampire Journals.Morgan is an awesome writer and leaves you wanting more. The book captivated me from beginning to end and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Once I got started, I didn't want to stop listening. This book is like going on one of the best roller coaster rides ever. All of my feelings came into play and it left me wanting to know more about the characters. I can actually relate to them.. Kudo's to Morgan for keeping me entertained.

    Any additional comments?

This book is a must read for anyone who is into the Vampire genre. You get a little action, some mystery and a love story to boot. This book has it all. I give it 5 stars.

What did you love best about Turned?

Some of the most real characters, that are truly identifiable and relatable, and make you so excited to find out where the story will take them next

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love both Caitlin and Caleb, but I can't imagine the story without any of the characters

    Any additional comments?

The entire series (and the series that directly follows) are a must read for any fan of supernatural fiction!

"Never been more disappointed in a vampire series"
    What disappointed you about Turned?

There were little to no refrences to what kind of vampire lore she was using for the series and I read the next two books just to make sure I didn't like it and the continuing story like makes no sense there's no continuity of the storyline and her writing gets more redundant and amaturish while shes trying to make it look like the charachters are evolving its like....a 13 year old girl with a 5th grade reading level and a thesaurus wrote it

Would you ever listen to anything by Morgan Rice again?

    No thanks

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Brianna Knickerbocker?

    Lorilei King or Tavia Gilbert

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No it made no sense read the next 2 books and it makes even less sense its annoying

    Any additional comments?

I want my money back that was awful

    No, the narrarator was terrible.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    Read it instead.

    No way!!!!!

Could you see Turned being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, but I'm not sure of the actors.

    Any additional comments?

The narrarator speaks WAY too slow!

"One of the worst vampire books I've read"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I'd rather have spent the time listening to something else, but it was an OK way to distract myself while doing the dishes. About halfway through it was truly difficult to keep going, but I wanted to finish it so I could write an honest review.

Has Turned turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, vampire books will always will always be one of my favorite genres, but it sure turned me off Morgan Rice!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Brianna Knickerbocker?

Ugh, just ANYONE who doesn't sound like a seventeen year old snotty little girl with a distinct Californian accent. Seriously, ANYONE ELSE. Pronunciation, rythm and pitch were just awful. Needed a little bit more character also.

Could you see Turned being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, please. Those Twilight movies were awful enough.

    Any additional comments?

Characters were very unconvincing, plot was kinda meeh. If the writer would have actually put some effort into the story and characters I would have loved it. But in no way am I buying that within an hour of meeting someone, one could declare a deep love and be hurt by their rejection and so on. Just awful character building. It feels a little like the author is just hurrying to skip to the end of the book. Also Caitlin's relationship with her family seems to completely fade away - is very confusing and weird.

In summary: Very gripping and convincing in the beginning, but quickly turns to the most ridiculous story I've read.
