"a heart for kids in trouble"

This book was introduced to me by a teen patient in my pediatrics office as mandatory reading in his high school English class and the concept of tribal justice dispatching a teen to an island to fend for himself was fascinating. But I could not put it down. It is a story of redemption at a gut wrenching level of self discovery.

I have a rather eclectic love of books. I know what I like and I tend not to be a severe critic. If I enjoyed it, it gets 4 or 5 stars.

    "Phenominal Book!"

This is a young adult book that I read with my class, however, I have listened to it several times on my own. It is appealing to all ages, especially if you are curious about bullys and juvenile delinquents and why they act the way they do. It is touching and spiritual on many levels. It helps us to understand why children act out, what makes them appear to be so angry, and what experiences might change them. I highly recommend this book for pre-teens/teens and adults alike.

    "Exciting, gripping, resilience building"
What made the experience of listening to Touching Spirit Bear the most enjoyable?

I am a teacher and we listen to the book during study hall. It allows me to move about the room and keep an eye on all of my 31 students.

What does Lee Tergesen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tergesen brings tone and inference that makes the story telling more enjoyable.

    Story
    "Narrator"
Where does Touching Spirit Bear rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Would give this book a 4 star rating.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Thought the narrator read way to fast and there was very little difference in his voice as it changed from character to character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Loved the ending, it left you pleased but also left the door open for a future book.

    Any additional comments?

I read the actual book as well as listened to the audio version so I knew the story line well.
Would have enjoyed the audio better had the narrator done a better job.

    "Great book for kids!"
What did you love best about Touching Spirit Bear?

I used this audible download in my classroom so that the kids could follow along in the novel. They loved listening, and they loved the book too!

What did you like best about this story?

The story flows well. It helped many of my students connect with the main character.

What about Lee Tergesen’s performance did you like?

Sounded angry just as the main character should.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

It's about a boy who learns that only he can decide his life.

"great story with equally great narrator"

The story moved and held my interest. The narrator really captures Mikaelsen's storyline. I am going to check out other novel's read by Lee Tergesen. This is the second book of Mikaelsen's I have thoroughly enjoyed.

    "Couldn't stop listening."
Would you consider the audio edition of Touching Spirit Bear to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version...I intended to but I couldn't stop listening to the audio version.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the character development. I really enjoyed seeing the character come full circle.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have I would have listened to the whole book in one sitting. This was a moving book for both teens and adults.
