Before the curse, there was a promise. A prequel to the best-selling Tiger's Curse series, this much anticipated novella recalls the beginning of Ren and Kishan's story. Before Kelsey there was a girl, raised by a villain, whose love for a hero changed the course of history. Trapped under the thumb of her abusive and powerful father Lokesh, Yesubai struggles to keep her own magical abilities secret while evading his dark powers. When Lokesh promises Yesubai to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, she becomes the central pawn in his plot to destroy the ruling family and take power for himself. Yesubai is trapped by her father's threats and desperate to protect the man she comes to love, but she knows that any decision she makes will have dire consequences. As dark forces gather around her, Yesubai must decide if she's willing to reveal that somewhere deep within her she has the power to change everything.

Now on to the rest. I can’t wait to see how the story continues from here.

The beginning

Unfortunately I was afraid to go further because it seemed so tragic and since I listen to these books while I work I sure didn’t want to be depressed
So I’m on my better days in order to balance it out I should be able to listen to it

Very good

The story of Yesubi was OK. Definitely not the exceptional story of Ren, Kelsey, Kishan, Mr Kadam, Nalima & Durga. woven thru the other 4 books in the Tiger Curse series. Most of this story was told in flashback snapshots in the other books. Yesubi is serene & beyond beautiful. Lokesh is cruel monster of a man. Ren is honorable & Kishan is in love. All that was in the TC series. The relationship between their Mom & Yesubi as well as Yesubi's inner personality/thoughts were fleshed out some more. Its short, so it doesnt take much time. Thats the plus side. Colleen Houck is an exceptionally good story weaver. I was lost in the other Tiger Curse books. I hope the next book, Tiger's Dream, is much better than this one. More on the depth, interest level & as enchanting as the 1st four TC books in the series. I have read each of those books four times each so far. That story never gets old. Each of those books were as interesting on read 4 as it was the first time through. I may try to listen to Tiger Promise again to see if it gets better on the 2nd time around just to make sure I wasnt being overly critical, unnecessarily.

It was OK

I loved it. This was a wonderful insight, finally having a better veiw from the inside of Lokesh's home through Yasubai. Ending tripped me up a bit with Ren, almost felt unfinished, but I guess I must just have to re-read the series lol. Over all, I am very satisfied and happy with the loose ends they tied up.

Awesome as always

As with the whole series, I am left wanting more. Beautifully written and completely engaging.
