Publisher's summary

Armed only with a frying pan and her common sense, Tiffany Aching, a young witch-to-be, is all that stands between the monsters of Fairyland and the warm, green Chalk country that is her home. Forced into Fairyland to seek her kidnapped brother, Tiffany allies herself with the Chalk's local Nac Mac Feegle, aka the Wee Free Men, a clan of sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men who are as fierce as they are funny. Together, they battle through an eerie and ever-shifting landscape, fighting brutal flying fairies, dream-spinning dromes, and grimhounds (black dogs with eyes of fire and teeth of razors) before ultimately confronting the Queen of the Elves, absolute ruler of a world in which reality intertwines with nightmare. And in the final showdown, Tiffany must face her cruel power alone.

In a riveting narrative equal parts suspense and humor, Carnegie Medalist Terry Pratchett returns to his internationally popular Discworld with a breath-taking tale certain to leave fans, new and old, enthralled.

Critic reviews

"Briggs reads the prose with rhythmic glee and suspenseful understanding....This tale is especially recommended for all girls who wonder why boy characters like Harry Potter seem to get all the magical action." (AudioFile)
"The book is full of witty dialogue and a wacky cast of characters....A funny and thought-provoking fantasy, with powerfully visual scenes and characters that remain with readers. A glorious read." (School Library Journal)

Fun little story, great narration

I have high standards when it comes to audiobooks and this one passes the test. Not my usual story but it was recommended to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope I can find some more that are as good.

The world is a lesser place without Mr Pratchett

Excellent as usual. There's still magic in the world if you know where to look😉

Awesome, fun, intelligent!

Everything a book should be: unpredictable, deep, and full of language used in a playful way.

So much fun!

A light and airy story narrated as it deserves. My litmus test for audible stories: does it encourage me to find more from this author and/or reader? in this case, yes on both counts.

The perfect escape

Story is wonderful, narrated beautifully. The audio quality sounds old, but doesn’t detract from how much I enjoyed it.

My go-to mood booster

I can never get enough of the Wee Free Men. There are so many Pratchett characters to love, but these may be my favorite. And Stephen Briggs is perfection.
