Better if you read yourself

I enjoyed the book itself, but highly disliked the production of it. The editing is horrible. I sat down and read it and enjoyed it alot more. Don't waste your time listening to this one.

Annoying Narrator

An annoying narrator that intermittently makes a swallowing sound that's very distracting. I have to endure the whole audiobook listening to this sound. Better off reading.

decent book; bad reader

I like the story, but I'm not a fan of the reading here. It's not a woman reading in my edition, so I don't know who this guy is named 'Suzanne'. The reader has but one tone: assertive. Women speak assertively. Lovers speak assertively. Cafeteria ladies serve assertively. Humorous lines are delivered humorlessly but- you guessed it- assertively. I agree with the other reader; you're probably better off reading on your own.

Do yourself a favor and SKIP THIS audio book

I read the entire Heir trilogy written by Cinda Williams Chima &, even though it is a young adult series, I found it to be entertaining & engaging. This is a refreshing break from all of the vampire novels dominating the genre. What you have here are wizards but you'll not find a clone of Harry Potter. The character development, world building & plot pacing were so well done that this is one of those series that you'll delight in reading.

While I believe the book rates a solid 4, the narration drops the rating to a one. Sadly I didn't heed the warnings of the other reviewers. Suzanne Toren is credited as the narrator but the reader is a male. I've listened to hundreds of audio books and this narration was the WORST ever. Dull monotone, beyond annoying LOUD swallowing and distracting sucking in of air throughout! I want the reader's name only because I will NEVER listen to another narrated by him.

Because of the narrator, I strongly suggest you pass on this title.

Can't stand the breathing and mouth noises

Not to mention his strange afeminite way of speaking. Over doing pronunciation. Smacking lips, swallowing noises, desperate breaths in before continuing. Disappointed Can't do any more and he is the narrator through the ENTIRE series.

Swallowing

Would have been 5 stars all around if I didn't have to hear the narrator swallowing every 10 seconds.

It is great

I loved the story. The story captured me and had me wishing for more. The narrator did poor in places: long pauses, audiable swallowing and the like. over all great book.

Narrator brings this series down

I love this series. I have read it many times and never regret rereading it. I enjoy listening to audio-books while working so finding this series on here was great. Then I heard the audio. This narrator's voice was not a very good fit for this genre, would probably do better as a lecturer. His tone was also pretty flat most of the time and kept pausing while reading like trying to swallowing spit. The editing is also pretty poor. There was a lot of heavy breathing, swallowing noises, and choppy sectioning. I guess because I know this story so well I can get over most of the audio issues and enjoy the story. If you have never read this series I suggest you read the book and not taint your mind and ears to this mess.

LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!

I love when authors combine history and fictionize the heck outta it!!! Cinda has done a wonderful job with this. The story has a wide variety of characters and emotions. You won't see the ending coming!!

My only gripe is the editing and narration. Too much empty sound. Gulping noises? Too slow on the read (I had it at 1.8x speed the whole time). Maybe that can still be fixed? I hope the rest of the books don't have that problem. It takes away from the magic of the story. The only way I could stomach the narration was having it at a high speed for want to finish. I wish Luke Daniels could read everything....
