    "Enchanting."
What did you love best about The Sound and the Echoes?

The magical world in which it was set. Dew Pellucid really managed to make a frozen wasteland sound like a beautiful and enchanting place. While it may be dangerous for us sounds, the world sounds like a magical place to be.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was full of twists and turns and surprised me at several places. I loved the main characters, especially Peter. It was a joy to read/listen to their struggles and to watch them grow as characters.

What about David Radtke’s performance did you like?

The story was full of twists and turns and surprised me at several places. The diverse characters and the magical attention to detail brought the whole story together. So many voices! Radtke is a master of voices. I would estimate about 100 characters were voiced in this novel. I am still listening but so far each one has been spot on!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Any scene with Victor Valerian.

    Any additional comments?

So proud of you Dew Pellucid!

    "Spectacular Read!!!!!"
If you could sum up The Sound and the Echoes in three words, what would they be?

    adventurous, magical, addictive.

What other book might you compare The Sound and the Echoes to and why?

I would say Harry Potter, it is a fantasy world just like harry potter ventures to

Which character – as performed by David Radtke – was your favorite?

Will for sure...he was good throughout but felt he captured Will

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

So far (as we are not done reading or listening to the entire book so no spoilers!!!) a little of both. There were moments of my kids bursting out with laughter and there are moments that we discuss that make them quiet and think about what just happened that makes them a little bit sad.

    Any additional comments?

Love this book so far and the author is fascinating. We look forward to many more adventures from Dew

    "In a word: WOW!"

An amazing story! Very well thought-out and executed. The characters are all very unique and develop nicely over the course of the book. There are character that you'll love to love and characters that you'll love to hate! The scenes are all well laid out and the descriptions really help bring this alternate "Echo World" to life.

David Radtke did an amazing job as the narrator. There were so many characters to voice! And each voice fit each character perfectly (in my opinion.) He wonderfully matched the pace of the narration with the pace of the book itself. If this is truly his first time as an audiobook narrator, then kudos to you David! A great start! (Even my girlfriend says she loves his voice... making me a little jealous ;) )

There were two or three very minor discrepancies in the story, but nothing so obvious as to take away from the whole book. (Most people probably wouldn't even find them. Can you?)

If you are a fan of fantasy or sci-fi, then downloading this book would make an excellent addition to your library.

"A must read for every kid!!!"

I had the honor to read this book with my 10 yo twins, this book is what piqued their interest in reading, that is a hard task to accomplish!! Now it's on audio and I KNEW I had to get it. My kids have already made me read them the book twice (1 ch each night) so I'm thrilled they can now read along with the audio vsn.
This book is just magical. It is soulful, emotional, witty, humorous, adventurous, and heartfelt. I would have to say this book is akin to the Harry Potter series without seeming like a copycat of the book. It is very original and I love it.
Ok so the story, no spoilers here, just some info. We start off getting to know Will Cleary, 12 yo boy whose twin sister went missing when they were age 2. Will has two amazing pets who have been with him for ten years and that's all I'll say on that. Will's parents have been trying to find Emmy for the past ten years with no luck and by doing so Will feels neglected so he jumps in and helps with the search, not knowing all the magical stuff that will be revealed to him.
Will lives in the Sound realm which would be "our" realm and Emmy was taken to the Echoe realm where everything is different, magical and beautiful. We get to go on the adventures with Will and see what the Echoe realm holds. This is the fourth time reading this book and I love it more each time.
Narrator - David Radtke is a very new reader, this is his first book from what I can tell. I would have to say its hard after reading the book to hear someone else's interpretation of the characters voices. If you have not read the book and are just listening for the first time, I think you will really enjoy his narration. He has a kid friendly voice and my twins told me they preferred him over me (heart breaking!)
Oh and one thing NO ONE should miss out on are the illustrations. They are magical themselves. I was lucky to win a hard cover book in a contest and before each chapter is an illustration. I recomend that whoever buys this audiobook goes to the authors FB page or website and look at how beautiful the art is.
    HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

"Thank you for the honest reviews!"
How did the narrator detract from the book?

I honestly didn't know if I could finish the book. I have listened to hundreds of books and can think of less than 5 that I could not finish. I pick books many times based so much on the reviews of other audible readers (which I find very helpful). I did not remember reading about the narrator in the reviews before purchasing this book and selected it for me and my daughter. It is almost painful to listen to as almost every single sentence is broken into a sing song phrases of 3-5 words each. By the way, I noticed that anyone that noted that in the reviews has like "1 out of 10 people find it helpful", etc... which I find rather interesting. THANK YOU to those that post HONEST opinions. Unfortunately, this narrator ruined the story for me. So much so that I had to come back to Audible to read the reviews and see if this was just me or if I was crazy. I guess I agree with the "1 out of 14 or so" reviewers that rated those readers as helpful as they tried their best to warn me. Otherwise, his CHARACTER voices are good.

    "The Jim Carrey of Narrators"
    Any additional comments?

I imagine this would have been an enjoyable and imaginative book, but I couldn't finish it. The narrator seems to have never met a line he didn't wish to over state, over act, over everything. Listening to his voice is like a Californian taking their first sip of Southern iced tea. Or like a small town library reader during story time with a group of five year olds. I could go on, but I probably shouldn't. This book is marketed for middle school kids, but I believe the reading style is far too juvenile for them.

    "Very disappointed"
What disappointed you about The Sound and the Echoes?

I was intrigued by the book's premise. I listen to lots of recorded books. This reader's inflection was so irritating that I couldn't stand to listen to it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Didn't get that far.

How could the performance have been better?

A different reader could have brought the story to life. The voices he used for the characters were irritating. The inflections sounded as though he didn't understand what he was saying.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story line definitely has potential.

    Any additional comments?

I would try it again with a different reader.

"Seriously people! It's for young adults!"

Some negative reviewers said they hated the narration, but their kids liked it.

    Well... DUH!

This book is for young adults ages 11-13 (it says so clearly). So if your young child enjoyed the audiobook then the narrator did his job well!

My two kids loved the book (AND the narration) as well did I.

Don't listen to the negative reviews.
This is an excellent audiobook for young adults!

    "Couldn't get past the narrator"

The storyline looked very promising and as far as I got I was intrigued. But the narrator ruined it for me, I simply couldn't continue listening to the over-pronounced sentences with dramatic pauses every few words. I am sure, a better narrator could have let me really enjoy the story.
