Publisher's summary

Joss McMillan’s perfect life crashes down the night he witnesses his sister’s murder - at the hands of a vampire. He then finds out his family’s secret heritage: They are part of the Slayer Society, a group whose mission is to rid the world of vampires. Joss is their new recruit. As Joss trains, bent on seeking revenge for his sister, he discovers powers that could make him the youngest, strongest Slayer in history. But there is a traitor in the Society, one whose identity would shake Joss to the core... if the traitor doesn’t kill him first.

With over a million copies already in print, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod is still sinking its fangs into new readers every day. Now, bestselling author Heather Brewer brings us the other side of the story, from the perspective of Vlad’s former friend turned mortal enemy: vampire slayer Joss McMillan. This is the first in a series of five books that can be read alongside Vlad Tod or entirely on their own.

The Narration

EVERYTHING about this book was perfect coming from Joss’s perspective! I loved the introduction of the slayers, and the variety of different characters.

That being said, it would have been a way better experience had the characters not sounded like either high surfer bros, country hicks, or an italian mob boss.

Pretty good

Young boy finds out he is marked to fight demons, goes thru a rigorous training plan, the bad guy is a surprise in the end. Sequels are planned for this.

best story in a while

I was upset on how the narrator pronounced certain names as they were pronounced properly in the Vladimir tod series but the glee I felt as having already read the previous series and hearing the names and the weight they hold I loved it

Great story

It’s an amazing story, with loads of detail to everything. But the narration makes me not even want to finish the book. The guys too monotone.

Lackluster

I was slightly disappointed in this book. I have read all of the Vladimir Todd books and loved each one. The characters and the pace. This was dull from beginning to end. The emotion wasn't in there like it was with Vlad. There were parts that should have had a lot of shock value, but were just glanced over. It was just lacking so much of the impact that she managed to put into Vlad.
