Loved it!...and I'm 34 years old :)

I haven't read/heard a young adult book since the Divergent series came out and I was searching for one. This series kept being suggested to me, so I finally gave in and I loved it! I love the characters, I love the writing, I love the elegant simplicity! I hope you all enjoy it too :)

Fun summer romance book

I selected this book for a light summer read/listen. The plot has is a Hunger Games meets The Bachelor feel to it. Overall I thought it was worth the credit and would recommend it my teen daughter.

Hunger Games meets The Bachelor

This is an intriguing story that merges Hunger Games and The Bachelor. Good read but the narrator sounds a little robotic.

interesting

My first impression was that Elizabeth Bennett and Katnis Everdeen had been merged. As the book progressed the similarities weren't quite as obvious but still there. America is pretty likeable as a character. My biggest complaint, and it's not that big, is the narration. I read a lot of YA books because I enjoy them, but the narrators don't seem to pack as much punch as narrators for adult books. I understand the voice has to be age appropriate but there doesn't seem to be as much feeling. All and all it was a good read and I will continue reading.

Love the concept, but the ending fell flat.

Would you listen to The Selection again? Why?

No, but I like the idea of the story enough that I will probably read the sequel.

Any additional comments?

I can already hear the objectors screaming at the idea of a young girl who starts out independent and strong falling prey to a system that objectifies women, but Kiera Cass does an excellent job of taking us into the process and seeing how easy it is for girls to get caught up in the idea of being a princess, wearing lovely clothes, being chosen.

FANTASTIC

This book is truly amazing. I couldn't put it down. It was slow in the beginning but it really picked up! It made me feel like a little girl again dreaming of a future prince. It makes you want to some day find love like that😍

Remember it is YA

This is not one of those YA books that is good for all ages. It is pretty juvenile and filled with angst. If they used clear communication, it would be 80% shorter.

The story is sweet the charecters are intriguing and you are rooting for the prince even though the selection is a bit sexist to say the least but on the other hand aspen oh aspen

Fun, girly story - flat, boring narration

I'm torn over this one - I found the book/story to be exactly the kind of girlish fluff I wanted when I purchased it. The material is inventive, easy to consume and it provided a nice escape during my commute.

I understand that Amy Rubinate is a popular and respected narrator, but I found her flat and disinterested narration style to be almost unlistenable. Narrators can do so much to elevate their material. She seems disconnected , unemotional and bored by what she's reading.
