Give it a Chance!!!

What made the experience of listening to The Selection the most enjoyable?

The narrator, Amy Rubinate, does a great job at telling the story. Kiera Cass has written a truly enjoyable book that draws you in when you least expect it.

What other book might you compare The Selection to and why?

I've been telling my friends that it is a cross between The Hunger Games, as there is a dystopian America which is now called Illia and a series of castes and the "selected" girls are in a bachelor style competition for the prince.

Which character – as performed by Amy Rubinate – was your favorite?

America. She makes the main character sound so familiar and normal.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I finished it in one sitting and I'm listening to "The Elite" as I write my review.

Any additional comments?

You may pass this book series over, or have been on the fence about it. There is something endearing about it. And since it is YA its nice to see that the relationships don't go very far into the realm of sexuality. Its empowering and sweet all at the same time.

slow start but pretty good finish

Not going to lie... I truly almost gave up on this book. it was very hard to get into, I almost hit return. but I'm glad I didn't. I bought this whole series before actually listening just because it was on sale. but after finishing this one I am definitely hooked it just took a while to get there. so if you aren't quite sure about this 9ne.. just hold out a little bit longer.. it may grab your attention at the least expected moment. I finished this book in less than 24 hours and glad I kept on

Simple and entertaining

Other reviews said Hunger Games and Bachelor mixed together and that is 100% true and yet I am hooked. The voice actor could have been better. :(

Audible either has some great readers or horrendous ones that tank an amazing book…. This is the later.

Enjoyable distraction.

I love the detailed descriptions and nice characterizations. It is not a deep story--very easy to keep up without 100% focus. A bit of a cliff hanger/abruptly ending though. Great for selling the next book.

great story

I really enjoyed this story, which is similar to the Hunger Games, in some respect. however I found the monotone voice of the narrator disappointing. it could have been a much better listen if there was some voice inflection.

Awesome!

Can't wait to listen to the second book! Well worth listening to. Interesting take on Distopia, which I'm usually not interested in.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

What did you love best about The Selection?

This book consumed me! I absolutely would recommend it to anyone who loves romance and an interesting story. It of course has more then just romance, which keeps the story flowing well and makes it more interesting. I read all four books back to back and seriously was consumed! I’ve heard a lot of people describing it as the Bachelor and Hunger Games combined and yes that’s true in a lot of ways but it is also much more then that.

What did you like best about this story?

It was so sweet and the way Kiera writes is just captivating. There were a lot of times where you want something to happen and it will but it takes a little bit of time which is agonizing to wait but it's worth the wait!

Which character – as performed by Amy Rubinate – was your favorite?

I loved all of the characters at the beginning you immediately fall in love with America and Aspen! I thought I was going to hate the prince but i didn't; it is a true love triangle and you feel all of the pain and confusion as a reader! In the end America is my favorite but I think that’s because you read it from her perspective and as a reader you put yourself in her shoes; she and I are quite similar as well. Other then that the Prince is my favorite he is so dynamic and at times infuriating! You think you know everything about him from the beginning but just wait he'll surprise you.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES, YES, YES!! I read all three books back-to-back and only stopped to sleep!

Any additional comments?

Like I'm sure you have already figured out I love the book! It was impossible to put down and is worth every penny!
