Publisher's summary

Will is small for his age, but agile and energetic. All his life, he has dreamed of becoming a great knight like the father he never knew, so he is devastated when he is rejected as an apprentice to Castle Redmont's Battleschool. Instead he is apprenticed to Halt, the mysterious Ranger whose uncanny ability to move unseen is thought to be the result of black magic. Reluctantly, Will learns to use a Ranger's secret weapons: a bow and arrow, a mottled cloak and a stubborn little pony. It may not be the sword and battlehorse he longs for, but when Will and Halt set out on a desperate mission to prevent the assassination of the King, Will finds that a Ranger's weapons are not so useless after all....

Keith's Review

Enjoyed this story as it unfolded. It painted a clear picture of the characters and how they developed along the way. Left me keen to delve deeper into the series.

Way too cheesy

This story has no original ideas and those ideas that it does have are very cheesy and have no real creativity

Very good!

I loved Williams different voices... Very accurately copying the same voice I attached to the character.

I read the book myself first then listened the audio, and the story inspires me every time

Brilliant Story

I am 10. When you get rid of the bullies things get better. I like the way Horace and Will became friends.

Most enjoyable

Listened to this book on the way to school every morning with 2 boys aged 7yrs and 12yrs. They were absolutely riveted and QUIET (yay!!). We could not miss a morning without the Ranger's.

Hoping the rest will be available at Audible

Thoroughly enjoyed what is apparently the first in a series and hoping the rest are available soon.
Instead of the "child without parents" story focusing on parentage, Will has to deal with the day-to-day challenges of being without patronage in a world I would like to know more about.

More, please?
