Publisher's summary

The time has come for one winner to be crowned.

When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown - or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose - and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

These are great books!

I love these books. Such a great series! Wonderful love story. Sometimes it's a little funny to hear a girl doing a guy's voice but easily ignored.

Oh my...

Wow, such an explosive end to this series. I never saw it coming, such a great way to end the series and on such true words, "this isn't happily ever after, it's so much more than that!"

Typical

Your typical love story. It was pretty predictable, but the author did a good job creating enough drama for you to second guess your thoughts. Finally, the truth comes out about so many in the story. A secret insider causing attacks on the royals. A father with a secret. Who will get their happily ever after? Whose secret will come out? Which one will be chosen, if any?

Interesting…

I liked the series. It was fun and kept me entertained. The book had a few sexual parts in the book but the book is more for tweens, teens and adults so I think it is fine. To be honest, America and Maxon annoyed me often. Although, their love story ends with a happy ending, it was a rollercoaster. If you have read or listened to the first 2 books, you would know that America has been unfaithful to Maxon at times. It annoys me because she gets so jealous at Maxon when the other girls do anything with him but yet there is some kind of excuse of “cheating.” She also could be very petty and pathetic at times. Maxon made me mad because when he was upset with America, he would talk to her in a belittling way. The book had me feeling as if their relationship was toxic and beautiful throughout of the book. I did cry at the end of the book because it was a picture perfect love ending. If you have read or listened to the first 2 books, might as well read this one. Might love it, might hate it. It is controversial. Sorry this review was just me blabbering for way too long. Have a nice day.

Well, gee, I wonder how this is going to end

What made the experience of listening to The One the most enjoyable?

You know, I'm not sure I enjoyed it as much as I would have if it came with another title. Before I even started I knew how it would end. And I'm not giving anything away, I'm just pointing to the cover which has a picture of a girl I can assume is American and she's labeled "The One." Sigh. I realize that going into this you get an idea of how it will end, because, let's face it, books like these make no secret about who the main couples are and if they will end up together, but let's at least pretend the triangle will be a triangle until the surprise ending, shall we? It's like The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Hmmm... I wonder if Hamlet is going to die?

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm not really sure. I mean, we're watching spoiled girls get to play in a palace. Even America - sure she's a five, but as much as Cass says "she remembers being hungry" I never have really bought it. She acts like someone who has never starved. And she takes to living in the castle really well, running around like it's no big deal. All of them do. So no, I'm not sure I like any of the girls the best, and the Prince, well, I can't comment without spoilers. I suppose I like Aspen the best. Though I'm irritated with some of the things he does too. No one stands out as stellar. Doesn't mean the book isn't good, tho.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

She's still wooden. Her inflections at certain times are odd. But she reads male voices well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Bachelor just got royal. Hah. I dunno. But I DO NOT think these books should be 3 movies. Maybe two, but one would be so much easier.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the series and binge-listened while out sick. America is, well, a character that will appeal more to teens so I think this book will be a huge hit with that age range. Worth the credits.
