Publisher's summary

The time has come for one winner to be crowned.

When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown - or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose - and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

Wonderful ending

Where does The One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The One was a great ending to the story, I enjoyed it very much. Just as good as the other two books, and right there with many other books.

What did you like best about this story?

I really liked the idea of the selection, and what the prince and the girls went through

What does Amy Rubinate bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought she did a very good job, would listen to her again for sure.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely......keep me wanting to get to the endt o see what happen

Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed, even though this seems like a young adult book and I usely read more adult type books, would read again...I mean listen to again!!!

Take a communication class!

I have consumed this series like an addict but I cannot say how many times I thought about stopping because America makes STUPID choices about staying quiet at the wrong times and never letting anyone else talk either.

A little forced to tie it all up!

I really enjoyed this YA book series, but the last book seemed a little rushed and forced to tie all the loose end's and one of the final deaths didn't have the drama I thought it could have built up too. But if you have enjoyed the series this is a must to conclude it.

Guilty Pleasure

Guilty. I like this series. And yes. I love The Bachelor too.

Even though the main character is quite irrational at times, she still is likeable. I enjoyed the added political element and wish the author would have developed that more.

So many emotions!

SPOILER ALERT
Once I start a series I’m committed! I’ll say American drives me crazy sometimes. I have to remind myself that she is only a 17 year old girl and has a lot to learn about love. She’s so stand-offish with the Prince at times and other times she makes foolish decisions pertaining to Aspen, but everything works out beautifully. My heart was broken when her father died. And again when Maxen changed his mind about her. And again when Celeste died. Who by the way I couldn’t stand for 2 1/2 books but who I could absolutely see being my very best friend by the middle of this book. It was a roller coaster of emotions! I certainly look forward to reading the next book in this series!

Amazing

If you could sum up The One in three words, what would they be?

Romantically magical

What other book might you compare The One to and why?

Think Hunger Games meets Cinderella.

Have you listened to any of Amy Rubinate’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the second books I've listened too. Her voice is soothing, colorful voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end of the book is worth it all!

Any additional comments?

Ignore the recommended age, every girl/woman wants to fall in love with a prince.

can't get enough

no matter how many times I listen to this series, I am on the edge just hoping that America won't wait till it's too late and tell Maxin she loves him sooner than she does.

Meh

Many aspects of this story feeling more forced than the first two- like the author is trying to make this book into something that even she doesn't quite understand. The characters lack depth, and the pattern of America falling for Maxon and being happy for about 30 seconds then immediately doing something stupid and causing a fight for really old by the end. Then, suddenly at the end there are some pretty significant deaths that everyone seems to get over in a matter of hours - I think this was in part because the author wasn't quite sure how to address these events in writing. Overall I enjoyed the book, but don't expect to come away satisfied with the writing.
