Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling series!

The first book in the New York Times best-selling series The Lying Game, by the author of the best-selling Pretty Little Liars series, Sara Shepard.

Shortly before her 17th birthday, Emma discovers she has a long-lost twin named Sutton Mercer. She contacts Sutton, who agrees to a rendezvous but never shows up.

Curious at first, Emma slips into Sutton's ultra-glamorous life, assuming her identity. When it becomes clear that Sutton is not coming back, that someone made sure she never could, Emma plunges in to investigate who could have wanted her sister gone (a fairly long list, she discovers).

Unfortunately, taking over Sutton's life means innocent little Emma has inherited all that bad blood - and then some. Perfect for fans of Sara Shepard's number one New York Times best-selling series Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game has all the juicy plot lines, to-die-for lifestyles, and compelling secrets that fans love.

Tv show to Books

I started watching the show and was delighted to find out that this was written by Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard. I enjoyed the first book and find that it is more interesting than the show. I like the Sutton as a ghost dynamic, watching over Emma's moves. I can't wait to find out who the killer is.

Turns out the twin really is evil.

What made the experience of listening to The Lying Game the most enjoyable?

not knowing for sure who was friend or foe.

What did you like best about this story?

the dialogue. i liked getting both emma's perspective and then sutton's thoughts and how she felt looking back on her life.

Which character – as performed by Cassandra Morris – was your favorite?

toss up between emma and sutton as they both played sutton

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

being mistaken for a rich, beautiful girl who has it all is every girl's dream. too bad she was the queen of mean, appears to be dead and i might be next.

Any additional comments?

very enjoyable story. it continuously keeps you guessing.

Hate the Narrator

I read the entire series of The Lying Game and enjoyed it immensely so I was really looking forward to listening to it, but the narrator's voice grated my nerves so badly I returned it and the entire series. I highly recommend you read the books of you want to read this series, but I will warn that if you watched the TV show, you will realize how much they altered that from the source material.

Interesting enough for an adult to hear...

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lying Game to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version of this book, so I am unsure of the difference.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Cassandra Morris?

Perhaps. Listening to this one sometimes made me feel like I was trapped in a 15 year old's conversation...which was sort of annoying.

Any additional comments?

The story was interesting. I enjoyed the story enough to really consider listening to the next one. The concept of the Lying Game was certainly different, and there were enough twists and turns to keep it good.

Formulaic twin swap plus teen jargon

The plot is a pretty standard twin swap plus murder mystery. It's not badly done but there's nothing new. The ghostly twist could have lead to clever story telling by allowing the narrator to know things not known by the protagonist. Instead, it's largely irrelevant due to ghostly amnesia - a missed opportunity for novel narrative structure.
