Publisher's summary

Book four in the blockbuster Maze Runner series that spawned a movie franchise and ushered in a worldwide phenomenon! And don’t miss The Fever Code, the highly anticipated series conclusion that finally reveals the story of how the maze was built!

Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth, killing most of the population.

Mark and Trina were there when it happened. They survived. But now a virus is spreading. A virus that fills humans with murderous rage.

They’re convinced that there’s a way to save those who are left - if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some you’re worth more dead than alive.

The end is only the beginning.

The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure are all now major motion pictures featuring the star of MTV's Teen Wolf, Dylan O’Brien; Kaya Scodelario; Aml Ameen; Will Poulter; and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. Also look for James Dashner’s edge-of-your-seat Mortality Doctrine series!

“James Dashner’s illuminating prequel [The Kill Order] will thrill fans of this Maze Runner [series] and prove just as exciting for readers new to the series.” (Shelf Awareness, starred)

Meh. Way too repetitive.

At first I enjoyed the story… It is always interesting to hear a back story. But, unfortunately, it felt like every chapter was almost identical to the previous chapter. I thought I would lose my mind if I had to hear the description of the infected people and how they looked and moved and sounded one more time. This was a good back story but could have been done in one or two chapters. The voice narration was excellent and helped me stay until the end... but glad it is over. 🫤

Entertaining, thrilling and fun. BUT.......

BUT, unable to match any of the first 3 books. I can wholeheartedly say that the first 3 books were by far the most entertaining, fun and emotionally convincing novel i have ever read. This book, to me, is no where near the first 3. So, I wouldn't recommend to read with expectation standard of previous ones.
Story wise, if you are willing to unlock those mysteries/conflicts within the first 3 books. You won't. Reading this book will only give you histories of how things are set to be in such a way. Since everything were NORMAL.....

fun to litsen …but the ending

If you are thinking about buying this book or not, I highly recomend you to buy this book.
I really liked litsening to this book because it has lots of battles in it.
The reason that i marked the story with four stars is because i didn’t like the part that in the end of the book, most of the main characters whom have survived a lot of things, died.
This is a personal thing, but I also didn’t like the part about my favorite character “A” dieing.
I am looking forward about litsening to the next book in the series.
And also if you read this, I am sorry about my English being difficult to understand. (I’m a japanese)

Poor

Definitely the weakest of the series. Far too much description of scuffle after scuffle after scuffle. Gives some good information on the actual flair but has zero Segway to the maze runner. It's ok for context I guess but not a requirement to reading the main part of the trilogy.

Loved it!

I read a few of the reviews and I think that if people stop coming at books like this with such high hopes in a 'perfect' story, they will find that this series is actually really good. Now, this may just be me saying this because I realize that I write very similar to Dashner, but I really think these are good books. They are suspenseful and exciting, right up until the end and they leave you wanting more, yes, but isn't that what makes a book good? I would definitely recommend this series to anyone and everyone. =)

slow sad ending.

Story starts you out full of hope and passion, than ends with a slow painful bitterness.

The Calamity Commences....

If you read Maze Runner first like me, you will appreciate this back story.

However, The Kill Order is a freestanding story in its own right with commensurate cataclysmic world ending drama to populate its unique brand of dystopia.

While I won't say the storyline is as engaging as the books for which it's a prequel, it is similarly compelling in pathos. Alec, Lana, Trina and Mark commence a journey to escape the atomic devastation of the city and end up delivering a singular hope to those not ravaged by the Flare-an epidemic like disease that is rampant as well as mutative. The Kill Order tells how close they come to surviving before succumbing to the government driven human weeding the Flare was to effect. It provides fertile ground to comprehend WICKED and its control lust excoriated in the trilogy.

Mark Deakins gives an impressive performance. At once convincing and dynamic, his voice becomes the perfect conveyor for the action, dialogue and exposition. I'm glad that he moves on to subsequent parts of the story.

Read the Kill Order before Maze Runner if you can, but read it matter what! It's where the calamity commences.

Adult Boredom

The narration was delivered well and the storyline was clearly directed toward the adolescent audience.

Nothing to do with the characters you love

This story is okay but has almost nothing to do with Thomas and his friends. the only reference to them is in the beginning and end when they mention how people came to take Thomas from.his mother. other than that it's a story about another group of people going through the flare.
