Publisher's summary

Book four in the blockbuster Maze Runner series that spawned a movie franchise and ushered in a worldwide phenomenon! And don’t miss The Fever Code, the highly anticipated series conclusion that finally reveals the story of how the maze was built!

Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth, killing most of the population.

Mark and Trina were there when it happened. They survived. But now a virus is spreading. A virus that fills humans with murderous rage.

They’re convinced that there’s a way to save those who are left - if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some you’re worth more dead than alive.

The end is only the beginning.

The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure are all now major motion pictures featuring the star of MTV's Teen Wolf, Dylan O’Brien; Kaya Scodelario; Aml Ameen; Will Poulter; and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. Also look for James Dashner’s edge-of-your-seat Mortality Doctrine series!

“James Dashner’s illuminating prequel [The Kill Order] will thrill fans of this Maze Runner [series] and prove just as exciting for readers new to the series.” (Shelf Awareness, starred)

Great story

I loved the story and how it weaved back and forth between present time and dream flashback. I felt like it would be more about the formation of wicked but it all came together well and narrator is great!!

Too long

I guess I thought this would be more of a short story (which it should have been). I guess I'm just not that in to listening to long fight scenes. I would have been happy to just hear the story about the beginning of the flare and start up of wizard. Oh well. All in all I enjoyed the series.

A beautifully horrid story

If you enjoyed the original series with its twisty darkness, as much as i did, then you should enjoy The Kill Order very much. I would actually recommend this story to be read after the original series as if weaning off from the addicting nature of Dashner's world, as it gives you a very similar high but in an alternative sense. My only complaint is the lack of more differentiated character voices, though the narrator sells the story with intensity and timing.

Good but not great.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this if they did not read/listen to the other books in the Maze Runner series. By itself, this book is ok but not strong by itself and I feel like it could have been done better in a different way.

Would you recommend The Kill Order to your friends? Why or why not?

I would not due to the fact that I feel as though I was hasty in buying this book and should have given it more thought.

Which character – as performed by Mark Deakins – was your favorite?

Alec was my favorite character because he is gruff and knows how to get out of situations. He also came out of no where in a few scenes and knew things that the other characters did not.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I really do not feel as though this book by itself can be successfully made into a movie. The tag line would be something close to Straight To DvD We Come!

Any additional comments?

When I went to buy this book I misunderstood what the implied meaning of the word "Order" meant in the title. I am not going to give any spoilers in this aspect but just be aware that in this case, order can mean more than one thing.

Great book

Only complaint that I have is that the audio could've been much better.

The story itself was a great pre-quill to the maze Runner and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Spotty Story Telling

While this was an entertaining story, it could have, and should have been so much better.

The plot skips around so much, not staying in one place (with one thread) long enough to really give the reader a good idea of what is going on.

And, by the way, who uses plaster on a giant air ship? There were so many problems with the design of the Berg, and every bit of the story involving them, that I honestly don't know where to begin.

Unless you are like me, and have some burning desire to know the whole story, I can advise skipping this one. Your time will be much better spent reading something else. Anything by Lois McMaster Bujold will do nicely. Start with The Warrior's Apprentice. You won't be sorry.

Unanswered Questions

I hoped that the prequel to the Maze Runner would fill in part of the story before the Maze. While it did give backstory I was left with even more questions than when I started.
