Publisher's Summary

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey - ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.

Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

"Narrator is great, message to teen girls is poor"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not, unless they were fantasy fanatics.

Would you recommend The Iron Daughter to your friends? Why or why not?

    Same as above.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

Could you see The Iron Daughter being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I could see it, and I could see it being very popular.

    Any additional comments?

Only a few thoughts for teen fiction authors. Please please please create strong female characters. And I don't mean girls whose only strength lies in how well they can wield a weapon or who can defy authority without thought. I mean girls who don't fall in love with "ice princes" or vampires--with older men who abuse them. Instead, make them beautiful and admirable from the inside out. Make them sexy, yes, but independent. Make them resourceful and sure, romantic, but not dumb asses. Megan had potential. But Julie Kagawa failed her, epically.

    "YA book"

Once again this is a young adult sereis, very good storyline, great narration by khristine Hvam, she bonds you to the characters, makes you see them as they are meant to be seen, I loved the friendship between Robin Goodfellow/Puck and Megan, the two banter back and forth like brother and sister. Her knight Ash, his beauty breaktaking, his change amazing... a very good read...

It's got a decent plot, but it has too much teen angst and pining over forbidden love.

    "Met my expectations"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Iron Daughter to be better than the print version?

I did really enjoy Khristine Hvam's reading of this book and it's nice to be able to do other things like drive and listen to a book rather than just read it

What other book might you compare The Iron Daughter to and why?

I really like the main character, she's a little wimpy at times but she's at least got some sense. Her situation is a bit like Clary's in the Mortal Instruments series but she's got more sense than Clary ever had and has a bit more of a backbone but is all in all in the same sort of situation and acts the same. Someone close to her kept erasing her knowledge of the hidden world she comes from (for her safety of course) and she jumps into this dangerous world with both feet only to almost die on multiple occasions because she doesn't use her brain well, and has to be saved by the handsome mysterious man that loves her but doesn't want to acknowledge it and is determined that they just can't be together but she's going to try anyways. I realized these stories were alike but now that I'm thinking about it writing this review it's crazy just how similar they are.

Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?

Hvam performed the main character and all of the male characters very well, I think because she naturally has just a slightly deeper voice. However, all of the female characters sounded exactly the same, and they all sound like Yzma does when she's a cat in the Emperor's New Groove. I mean it, it's like spot on Yzma the cat. (Go listen to it and compare, I swear they sound the same) That's the best way I can describe it, and it was honestly a little annoying (especially after I realized that and all I could do was laugh when I heard her try to speak as other women in the story). It's like she couldn't make any other fluctuations in her voice that would change between female characters in the book. But it was still worth it to buy the audible book and very enjoyable despite that

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No I saw most of it coming, but that's why I bought this book. Like when you buy a chick flick knowing ahead of time the plot what's going to happen and when, but you still watch it because you want to feel it and all the crying and laughing and warm fuzzy feelings it brings.

"I want to love it but...not so much."

    Twilight romance.
    Repetitious adjectives.
    Pouty and helpless female protagonist.
So much potential with a great setting and plot, and even characters...but alas...it satiates the appetite but isn't truly satisfying.

"Too much teen angst for an adult"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was ok, but the pining teens became tedious.

Do you think The Iron Daughter needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The plot was fine, it was the teen star-crossed romance that was juvenile.
