Publisher's summary

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives.

In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch - a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood - or else she might be next.

I love this series

Another great book in the Bloodlines series!
Sydney is growing on me as the main character. She finally opens up to the real world and admits to herself what is going on around her; including Adrian. Now that she has finally admitted her feelings, she is trying to push Adrian away - but with an evil witch after her she needs his help now more than ever!
This book focuses more on Adrian and Sydney, instead of the constant drama surrounding Amberwood Academy as in the previous books. There is still a fair amount of storyline to keep all the characters up to date so we don't forget about them, but to finally have some quality time with Adrian is nice.
We are introduced to several new characters, including Marcus and his merry men - who is super hot.. to everyone except Sydney. His bright blue eyes are no match to the perfect green of Adrian's in her mind. We also find ourselves with a cliff hanger that brings a couple new characters to the 'family' at Amberwood!
I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Magic? Yes please

This has been my favorite so far because Sydney gets off her “no magic” hang up. So of course more interesting stuff happens. A more action packed book for sure.

Sydney and Adrian Heat Up!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. If you have enjoyed the series so far, then Indigo Spell is a great addition :-)

What other book might you compare The Indigo Spell to and why?

Not sure. While they are spin-offs of the Vampire Academy books, the farther into the series, the less like the VA books they are. Magic takes a center stage in Indigo Spell, so maybe a Discover of Witches? There is the whole forbidden love between a vampire and witch thing going on.

What about Emily Shaffer’s performance did you like?

She is a decent narrator, not my favorite, but far from my least favorite.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Forbidden love?

Any additional comments?

The previous two books are told from Sydney's POV, just like this one, but there is a lot of Jilly, Eddie, and the other Moroi/Dhampirs. But this book is very Syndey/Adrian focused, which if you like their romance is a great thing. If you don't care for it as much as say, Rose and Dimitri's, then you might not like this book as much as the previous two. You get to meet Marcus, and find out what his group is all about. You find out what you already know about the Alchemists, that they are likely in league with the Warriors. And you get to attend Sonya's wedding, which brings us back to the VA cast. Rose and Dimitri, and Queen Lissa and Christian, are at the wedding, but we don't get to spend too much time with them.

Sydney is being hunted by a bad/evil witch, who happens to also be Mrs. Terwillinger's sister. In turn, Mrs. Terwillinger teaces Syndey how to defend herself, and Sydney and Adrian travel around the state warning other young witches that they may be in danger from Mrs. Terwillinger's sister (Veronica?). This activity keeps Sydney and Adrian around each other, and falling into romantic situations, despite Sydney's best efforts. All the while, Syndey is trying to decide whether she wants to break ties completely with the Alchemists or continue to work as a double agent and uncover more of their secrets. Working as a double agent is very risky, but leaving the Alchemists means leaving Adrian, Jill, and the others behind. No suprise which she chooses :-)

Richelle Mead does it again!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Indigo Spell?

the romantic scenes with Sydney and Adrian! especially the dream kiss .. it was perfect!

Have you listened to any of Emily Shaffer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes, I have listened to the entire Vampire Academy series and the first two bloodlines books. Emily Shaffer delivered a wonderful performance once again! I love her character voices , especially Adrian's.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the last chapter of this book! Richelle Mead really knows how to keep you guessing on what her characters will do and as usual I can't wait for the next book (she always drops a huge plot bomb at the end of each book).

Things are starting to sizzle!

Jill is pining over Eddie. Trey is recruited for tutoring. Eddie has decided to give Angeline a chance but she is being a bit flakey. Sydney is starting to really get confused over every thing she has been brought up to believe, who she thought she was and who she is becoming. Then there is Adrian. He had kissed her! That is not ok in any world! Even that radicals she has discovered would never stoop to that! Ms. Twilliger is desperately searching for her sister and trying to protect innocents from her, including Sydney.

Sydney is evolving into more than just an intelligent, beautiful young lady, she is becoming a warrior for good. It is such an exciting book!
