Publisher's summary

In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked - and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend - a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what - and who - is worth dying for.

Amazing

Would you listen to The Immortal Rules again? Why?

Yes, I've read it twice already. Julie has just became my favorite author, I love her writing style and interesting stories. The iron series was great and I wasn't sure if this could live up to it, but this is just a great book and I can't wait for the next book. I'm so excited about this series.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like her voice and the way she brings the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was amazing and my heart just kept wanting more and more. The excitement and the anticipation was great. There was a scene where my heart just melted, and then there were parts I got mad and sad and just crazy emotions. This book has it all, its a must have.

Great start to a series!

my first time reading a book by Julie Kagawa and I really enjoyed the authors writing style and plot line. Book was well paced with hardly a dull moment and kept me very curious about where it was headed. Narration was also fantastic and I will def be listening to book 2.

Summer Must Listen

The worlds that Julie create are exquisitely layered and complex. It is easy to forget where you are now and get completely lost in the stories. Julie has outdone herself in The Immortal Rules and should be at the top of your must read list this summer.

Surprisingly good

This is in the YA category but it has some edge, very similar to the Rhiannon Frater books but not quite as good, but still is worth the listen. I've listened to both books and I will get the next. If you like the genre it's worth your time cash or credit.

I mean, I finished it ....

I like the base of the story...but there were a few things here and there that annoyed me or didn't make sense. The storyline was good enough to make me finish, and make me want to listen to or read the next book. I didn't love the narrator, especially her male voices...bit I've definitely heard worse. Normally of a narrator is bad enough, I can't finish the book. She was okay.
