Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

"[The Hunger Games] is a violent, jarring, speed-rap of a novel that generates nearly constant suspense... I couldn't stop reading." (Stephen King, Entertainment Tonight)
"I was so obsessed with this book that I had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so I wouldn't have to stop reading... The Hunger Games is amazing." (Stephanie Meyer)
"Brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced." John Green, (New York Times Book Review)
I collect spores, molds, and fungus.
There are some books written to be big obnoxious blockbuster movies. This is one. With absolutely no character development, I'm sure the screen adapters had an easy job. Probably won't see the movie
Different, Addicting, & Moving
Twilight Sega. Easy read, wonderful story. I couldnt put it down.
Everything in the cave.
Let the Games begin.
I'm undecided. I'm not even sure I want to continue the series. This book did not leave me wanting more. It was entertaining, yes, but the storyline was very predictable. Author was able to get true emotion across in her story though.
I like the story all the way up to the games. I found the games to drag and be anti-climactic.
Enjoyable, Soothing, Characters Distinguishable
The story and the characters
I wanted but you need the time
This could be a great movie
Exciting. Fast. Heartfelt.
I am almost to the end of this book and am going to purchase the next in the series so I do not miss out on a trip. I was hesitant at first, wondering if this was another series of the
VERY creative! My 15-year old daughter got me to listen to this. Just downloaded the next books as well.
A fascinating twist on The Lottery, where the winner kills or gets killed. Almost like the draft.
Peeta was my favorite. As a man, I can relate to his unrequited love for Katniss. It was a wonderfully tragic love story.
She put me right into the story. It was like being there myself. A great performance!
Kill, or be loved?
For me, the mark of a great story is that I can't wait for part 2!
It is fast and vital When I finished listening to it I felt that it really had taken me somewhere.
This book reminds me of Phillip Pullman's young adult fiction; The Golden Compass, the Subtle Knife and so forth.
I had never heard an audio book read by a woman and it took an adjustment on my part as a listener but I became accustomed to it and appreciated it; the reader became part of the experience whereas with male-read stories I am essentially unaware of the reader.
A great listen while driving. The long drive flew by.
Rich voices--terrific vocal tones, pace, energy.
Catness receiving the bread from district 11
I listen to a lot of digital books--this is among the top 1%.
i like to sing!!!!!
I would listen to the hunger games OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.
I simply LOVE how the reader spells out every single detail, and is not monotone
like othe boring readers
i think that the most memorable part was where Peeta and Katniss were about to kill themselves, but they were stopped and annouced
I would have to say that i would have to pick Katniss, a skilled archer, and a good partner
YES!!! if i had that much free time i would be listening to the book right now!!!

I am SO excited about the movie, and the casting is excellent.
