Publisher's summary

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy's instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea's forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors from both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don't succeed, Gaea's armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

New Narrator

the change in narrator is very striking. the narrator seems to put a lot of emphasis into words that don't deserve it while words that would normally have an explanation mark are a little blender

great book poor performance

the only complaints I have in the story is Anna Beth went from being super bad ass to being weak in this book. I love the development of Nico's character. All the character development was perfect, except anna beth didn't evolve much . The performance was no where good as the other books: they made Pipper sound really preppy and Anna beth sound like a damsel in distress. The character voices were all very poorly done. I've listened to all the Percy Jackson books and this was very disappointing and not as enjoyable .

Competent if unenthused narration.

It's a shame they changed narrators this late in the series. Nick seems to rather bored reading.

Rough narration

Do yourself a favor if you’re going to listen to this book listen to it on 1.2 or 1.3 speed, it makes it at least tolerable.

by far the best

I absolutely love this book! it was by far my favorite!!
The only issue i had was the narrator was absolutely horrible. I thought Josh wants him was bad but this dude sounds like a drunk Surfer. You can barely tell the difference between any of the voices

differences for sure

The book gets a lot of hate because of the narrator, which is understandable. The voices are wildly different from the other narrator before him. He reads pretty slow and it doesn't fit the story at all. It's almost like he's running out of breath half of the time.
Other than this, the story is great. Rick has come a long way since his first book and is only getting better. Excited to finally finish the series!

Love the book...not a fan of the reader :(

If you could sum up The House of Hades in three words, what would they be?

Another Awesome Adventure

What did you like best about this story?

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the series thus far. I am afraid to say much about the parts I truly loved to prevent any spoilers...just know you will not be disappointed by reading this installation!

Would you be willing to try another one of Nick Chamian’s performances?

Probably not, he does not have a wide enough range for the multitude of characters he is suppose to be preforming. Also I do not find his reading tone enjoyable it a very crass to my ears.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I am afraid to say too much I'm not a fan of spoilers, but yes I found a few areas of the book moved me.

Any additional comments?

While I was delighted by the performances on this series predecessors I found the voice actor led much to be desired. I would greatly appreciate a version with Joshua Swanson reading this book!! I would even pay the same price again for a second and what I am sure would be a much better rendition.

Wrong narrator

Would you listen to The House of Hades again? Why?

Probably not. I preferred the previous narrators.

What aspect of Nick Chamian’s performance would you have changed?

I wish he had pronounced the Greek and Roman names (and words) correctly. I also did not like his female voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Horrible narrator!

If you could sum up The House of Hades in three words, what would they be?

very busy book

What other book might you compare The House of Hades to and why?

not sure

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was horrible! Sometimes he was very mechanical and read without feeling. I could not follow the book at times since the narrator was so bad.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no!

Any additional comments?

Listen to the narrator before you pay him. This guy should pay you to listen to him read!
