Publisher's summary

Stella will do anything for her sick sister, Cara - even stand in line for an autographed Heartbreakers CD for four hours. She's totally winning best birthday gift this year. At least she met a cute boy with soft brown hair and gorgeous blue eyes while getting her caffeine fix. Too bad she'll never see him again.

Except Stella's life has suddenly turned into a cheesy love song. Because Starbucks Boy is Oliver Perry, the lead singer for the Heartbreakers. And even after she calls his music crap, Oliver still gives Stella his phone number and whispers quotes from her favorite Disney movie in her ear. OMG, what is her life? But how can Stella even think about being with Oliver - dating and laughing and pulling pranks with the band - when her sister could be dying of cancer?

The Heartbreakers

I was looking for a light-hearted listen and this hits the spot.

It was light but serious when needed to be and it kept me listening.
I really like the meet-cute and all that happens after.

The band scenes were my favorite, that many characters it can’t be easy to include them all and still make the story interesting and yet Ali Novak does it.

Kinda wish book 2 was Stella.
The narration was great I really enjoyed her voices for the characters.

A Sweet, Quick, Cheesy book!

To my surprise, I really liked this book! I usually read the complex, action-packed books, that have 500 pages. And yes, The Heartbreakers is definitely not a thrilling or complicated story. So, I will admit there were many cringe worthy cheesy moments. And it was all very predictable. Another flaw was the narrator. I liked her, but a lot of the characters sounded the same. However, the book made me smile all the way through! By the end, you'll be wishing Oliver was your boyfriend! I loved how the story focused on each character and Cara's cancer, while telling a love story! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick, funny, sweet book that will make you happy for hours!

Good Fan/Star Romance

This was a fairly clean romance story (except for some heavy make-out sessions). The language wasn’t too bad. The MC met the pop star to get an autograph for her sick fan sister. Then she realized she’d already met the guy. She wasn’t a fan. But situations changed.

I loved the ending. Very satisfying.

Sweet

At first I didn't think I would finish this but I hate giving up on a book. I'm glad I didn't because it was nice getting to know everyone. I could definitely relate to only being seen as one of a trio and not an individual. That was nice. I like the ups and downs of the relationships in this book. I especially liked the song at the end and how it was Oliver and Stellla's secret. I'm really glad I finished The Heartbreakers. Now I'm excited to listen to the next book.

Disappointing, but ...

The premise was interesting but the characters and performance and plot were flat. When a book doesn't capture me - the romance part of the plot was totally lacking in spark - I use it to get to sleep some nights and this booked worked wonderfully for that. Not being snarky, but it was just that slow and ... Merely pleasant. I gave Arielle 4 stars because I don't think she had great material to work with, but is a fine narrator.

A Sweet Novel

What did you love best about The Heartbreakers?

The Heartbreakers was a novel about coming to age and letting go of the fears that prevented the main character Stella from moving forward. I loved that Stella allowed herself the chance to experience life in a way she didn't allow herself to do because of her family. This book was such a sweet YA romance and I loved that it was something I could easily immerse myself in without a lot of heavy feelings making me depressed while listening.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was such a sweet moment and one that I was happy to see. I'm very glad it ended the way it did.

Have you listened to any of Arielle DeLisle’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of Arielle's other performances, but if this book is any indication of her style I would love to listen to more books she has narrated. I loved the performance. It was what made the book even more enjoyable to me (I own the actual book and loved reading it).

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made me laugh and smile at the boys antics. It also made me a bit sad. Thankfully the sad parts were never really dark so there was no depression while listening to this book.

Any additional comments?

Ali Novak is a young author. From the few novels she has written you can tell that her targeted audience is YA. Despite not being a YA myself, I still enjoyed the lightness of this book. It is definitely not an in depth novel, but that's what I liked about it. It was exactly what I needed at this time.
