New York Times best-selling author Cinda Williams Chima is well known for her Seven Realms fantasy series.
When commoner Han Alister finds his friend Rebecca on the edge of death, saving her life becomes his number one priority. Then he learns that Rebecca is really Raisa anaMarianna, heir to the Queendom of the Fells, and he’s devastated - for more than one reason. But he’ll have to ignore his personal feelings to fulfill a promise he made long ago.
Listen to another Seven Realms novel.

So Amazon.com has been calling this series a trilogy, it's not. No closure here. But that's actually ok. Turns out this is the best one yet (though I think the 4th book should be it). The first book, The Demon King, was a slow builder as the foundations of the characters, their past, and their environments was filled out by the author with care. The second book, The Exiled Queen, had more happening. But this third one is full of action driving the story forward at a much quicker pace. There are many exciting developments and I was caught by surprise at the sudden announcement of the narrator saying, "The End." I should have noticed the subtle difference in the publisher description as a 'seven realms novel' instead of 3rd in a trilogy. But the listening hours were long enough and the story definitely engaging enough that I wasn't too put out. The narrator is limited in her range of believable male voices but is still enjoyable. I will be getting the next one... (I don't repeat story synopsis in a review since that is found in the book description already, but, since no ratings are given it should be said that all 3 so far have been completely 'clean' of adult content for anyone who is concerned about that)
Risk, daring, plot all rewarding to listen to. Could not wait to get back to my studio to make art and listen so at times i didn't. I am now on the next book of this series and cannot eat for it to down load to see who the queen ends up with or if she herself ends.
Great continuation of the storyline. Exciting action, daring escapes & characters to cheer for & villains to hate. Ms Chima is an excellent author. I feel I can see her world so clearly in my mind's eye :)
It prepped a lot of questions for the final book.
I really enjoy all of cinda Williams chimas books. If you enjoy this series you should definitely check out warrior heir. I think that particular series is even slightly better.
Librarian and long-car-trip enthusiast.
I can't fault the narrator for the mediocre experience that this audiobook provided. The quality, pacing, and energy of the narrator was more than sufficient... sadly, it was Ms. Chima's story that was lacking. It may be a personal problem, but there is only so much of Raisa's whining that I can take. I actually found myself fast fowarding through the chapters with Raisa just to get past her endless angst. But, for a triology turned tetralogy, I'd say a third installment that felt like a filler was to be expected. Overall, I'd recommend spending your coveted credit on this audiobook only if you are very dedicated Seven Realms fan and lover of emotive teenage monologues.
Ms. Chima, has two series that I have followed. Both of them are excellent. This book continues the saga, building upon the story line. The development of the characters and how they interact continues to intrigue the reader. I can not wait for the final installment in this series. I also recommend the series of The Warrior Heir.
