Mystical growing up story.

It's reminiscent of The Jungle Book. Even the title. Beautiful story about growing up. It's incredibly beautiful despite the macabre setting. Wonderful read.

Heartwarming, whimsical, and macabre

A strange and delightful book that manages to be both creepy and sweet. I was utterly taken in. This author's imagination is boundless, reminiscent of Tim Burton but with heart and humaneness. I loved it.

Incredible performance of a fun story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, Neil Gaiman gives an excellent performance of his own title. The story itself comes across almost as a series of mini-stories (which is more or less how it came to be if I understand correctly) wrapped in a larger and exciting adventure. Unfortunately, the story as a whole just barely misses the mark. Very fun story overall and an absolutely fantastic performance made it still be a great and highly-recommended experience to me.

What a lovely surprise!

I've been an adult for many years now, but there are some children's books I still like (Narnia, Harry Potter, Despereaux, etc.) There are many others that don't move me at all. This was a wonderful surprise as I had never heard of it before. I cared deeply about the many diverse characters--the living, the dead and those who were neither. (I'm in love with Silas!) It is a classic, in the sense that it tells a tale of good and evil, of life and death and of love, friendship and loyalty. It is also a page turner, (if you can say that about a book in audio form.) I sometimes listen or read until I fall asleep, but this book kept me awake to find out what happened next! Highly recommend this tale.

Gaiman is the perfect voice for this book.

The book is a fairy tale in the ancient sense. Not a gentrified, gentled tale, but one that walks into the dark, posing questions about good and evil and who we are and whether we can change.

Great book!

I wanted a book to tie me over till the next Lockwood and co book comes out. It was a refreshing retake of the jungle book. Loved the environment and characters.

Quintessential Gaiman!

Outstanding story with beautiful characters. Quirky twists kept the story compelling. loved the author's narration as I firmly believe no one knows the story half as well. A joy to share!

Great narrator. Great voice.

Great book for family time. Predictable but still a fun story. Really enjoyed the narrator for this book... he was the author!
