Don't buy this thinking it's the last book in the Dark Reflections trilogy. It's the first book, The Water Mirror, with the UK title.
"Some good ideas but bad value"
This is the first part of a trilogy, First problem:- the other 2 parts are not available on audible at the time of writing. Second problem:- it is really more appropriately described as part 1 of a story, as nothing is resolved at the end of this book, which was very disappointing.
There are some interesting ideas and characters, mermaids in the canals of Venice, magic mirrors, flying stone lions. There are vague echoes of CS Lewis and Phillip Pulman. Unfortunately none of the jdeas are explored in much detail. The story flowed best for me when the author told the story of one of the characters, Eft, and we learned how she came to be as she is.
The narrator was excellent, and didn't once pause in the wrong place (a pet hate of mine).
This is a children's book, I am not the intended audience, but I do read and enjoy children's literature.
6 hours listening and no resolution to the story for 1 credit is bad value IMO. If all 3 books were included I would give it at least one more star.
