Publisher's Summary

Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride and the other members of "Flock" - Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel - are just like ordinary kids - only they have wings and can fly. It seems like a dream come true - except that they're still being hunted by new threats at every turn.

This time, the U.S. government wants to keep the Flock under observation, offering a safe haven and schooling in return. But after their incredible adventures in books 1-3, Max and Flock have grown to love freedom - after all, haven't grown-ups always found a way to ruin their lives?

After escaping the control of the feds, they are surprised to find themselves allied with a group of environmental scientists who just might be trustworthy. Besides, what enemy could find them in one of the remotest locations on earth - Antarctica - on an expedition studying the effects of global warming up close?

There is one, however: The Uber-Director - literally, brains on a stick - an evil being who has developed mechanical soldiers far more frightening than Erasers. Their quest? To retrieve the Flock and sell them in a global auction for billions of dollars. Will the Uber-Director nab them before Max, Fang and the flock succumb to the dangers of the harsh Antarctic wilderness?

Kids, parents, and educators tuned into the issue of global warming will find this latest episode of the blockbuster Maximum Ride series not only a particularly riveting adventure, but also a motivating, cautionary tale about a real-life peril that may affect their own future.

    "Disapointing."

Unlike the previous Maximum Ride books, this one has an agenda to preach to your children a religion of global warming. It implies like the future books will have the same focus. Lack of scientific principles throughtout the book with the characters guessing their way to the assumed cause of all thier problems. Not the action packed Max books we'd expected.

    "Sadly not even good fiction"

The previous books were very good and entertaining. I and my kids loved them. My kids will not hear this book. It's full of questionable science and questionable facts used to support an anti-global warming agenda complete with political direction straight from Al Gore. It MIGHT be tolerable kids fiction if it were balanced; but, it isn't. A sad addition to a good series.

    "political statement"

We realy enjoyed the first few books of this story (Maximum Ride) but, This and the previous book are nothing but venting by the author about global warming. Not saying that global warming doesn't exist, but this is not entertainment.

    "Needed to do his homework"
Would you try another book from James Patterson and/or Jill Apple?

I will read another one of his books.

Has The Final Warning turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not from this genre but maybe this series.

Was The Final Warning worth the listening time?

This book had a major political agenda. Completely turned me off.

    Any additional comments?

I have read lots of Patterson books, this is the first one I did not like. He needs to do his homework, a little better, on global warming. If you want to read a book with a left-wing political agenda this might be the book for you otherwise it is not worth the time.

    "Good continuation of Series"
Would you listen to The Final Warning again? Why?

    Maybe

What other book might you compare The Final Warning to and why?

The rest of the Maximum Ride books

What about Jill Appleā€™s performance did you like?

All of it. She brought ALL of the characters to life but she was really Max to the limit!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Max is dealing with her feelings for Fang and her jealousy. She tells Fang that "there is no me and you." And Fang responds, "There will ALWAYS be a me and you!"

    "Not worth it very disappointing"
Would you try another book from James Patterson and/or Jill Apple?

Not sure what happened to Jame Patterson. The other books were so good. This was a book only about promoting an agenda about global warming. Not a good book in anyway.

What could James Patterson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Get back to business and quit promoting his own agenda.

How could the performance have been better?

    It was good

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Anger and disappointment

    "Left kids puzzled..."

I didn't read this book but listened to it several times with the kids. After a while they started getting bored and noted patterns in the dialogue such as "PTYN KXNHBVGOP TWMEPEF. I figured they were just kids being kids.

    "Utterly Disappointing"

This book doesn't even seem like it was written by James Patterson at all. It's so haphazard. Storylines are left hanging, details are left out, it lacks action and imagination. My family and I were completely disappointed. I was surprised at how the kids even noticed that it was "boring" considering how much we have enjoyed the series and looked forward to the next book. I liked the fact that it had some educational issues with global warming etc... but it was done so utterly poorly that it was almost embarrassing.

    "Mutant kids run amuck"

Patterson has a knack for writing thrillers and as a fan of his work, I wanted to love this. However, compared to recent listens like Robert Stanek's wonderful Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches, The Final Warning wasn't as good.

    "Cute"

Another episode in Max's life...another adventure. Cute, easy to follow. And informative about environmental issues.
