Publisher's summary

The recently orphaned Sisters Grimm find out from their Granny, who they thought was dead, that they're descendents of the legendary Brothers Grimm. Now they must take over the family responsibility of being fairy tale detectives in a town where fairy tales are real. Their first case: a giant is destroying the town and it may have something to do with a boy named Jack and a certain famous beanstalk.

Cute Idea but Not my Cup of Team

This is a cute idea and parts of the story were rather fun. But on the whole I got bored with it. I am sure this would appeal to younger children but unlike the Harry Potter or Bartimaeus books I did not find this appealing to adults. I had a hard time making myself listen to all of it.

Of the two children in the book, I found Sabrina rude and irritating and truly an unappealing character unlike her sister Daphne.

The reader was excellent and makes up for the sagging, lagging bits of the story. He really gave voice to the characters in the book.

Since these are based on popular fairy tales I am sure they will appeal to children. If you have children I would definitely give them a try.

Hysterically demented takes on the old favorites

The Fairy-Tale Detectives breathes hysterically funny new life into all the old favorites. In the world of Sabrina, Daphne, and Relda Grimm the folk of fairy tales are alive and living as neighbors, friends, and even enemies. Watching a favorite character cope with the modern world, display unexpected foibles, or interact with characters well outside their own stories is intoxicating and fun. The sisters and their friend Puck display all the affection, friendship, and spirited rivalry one would expect in siblings, all the while making parents thank the heavens their children can't get up to magical hijinks. I've rarely read a series of books so creative, engaging, and full of laughs. Reading them never fails to lift my spirits. The only downside the books have is the stitch you'll get in your side.

The Descriptions of the characters

I loved how I squealed with excitement when I called out the right character they described like the Big Bad wolf 🐺 or the 2 little pigs. I am looking forward to Book 2!

A great beginning to a really intriguing series

The story is short and sweet with likable and questionable characters. A good read for families though I’ve enjoyed them as an adult woman with no children.

Tales of old with a twist

I certainly enjoyed this little bit of fiction and fantasy! I like mysteries and detective stories that get your brain flowing with a good whodunnit! The story of The FairyTale Detectives, has several things going for it, in my opinion. It's simple enough for a young adult, but adult enough for people like myself that enjoy reading younger more youthful works. I don't like a bunch of romance or sex when I'm reading. I don't like politics or war, So this book is perfect for anyone wanting to relax and let their mind be free of the challenging times we live in today. There are heroes and villains, innocents and guilty. It's chock full of quirky characters that will cause you to reminisce about the stories we are all so familiar with from our childhood, but with just enough disguised that it will keep you wondering. It's a good, light hearted read and it took me far, far away from the every day events we contend with these days. Centered around two young sisters, in foster care, with fosters who are less than good parenting material. They are protective of each other, and excellent escape artists as well, which proves to come in handy further on in the story. It's no Gone With the Wind but it is now one of my favorite R&R stories. This is about a 6 hour read and I enjoyed every minute, especially the narration.

Revisiting from childhood

I’ve only read these books once; I was the perfect age demo when they were originally released on paperback in the 2000s and it’s the only childrens series I cared about long enough to finish as a 17 year old. I honestly have so much nostalgia for these books and this audible version made me feel like a kid again excited that two girls were the lead of an action adventure story. highly recommend.
