Publisher's summary

The selection began with 35 girls. Now, with the group narrowed down to the Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's love is fiercer than ever. The closer America gets to the crown, the more she struggles to figure out where her heart truly lies. Each moment she spends with Maxon is like a fairy tale, filled with breathless, glittering romance. But whenever she sees her first love, Aspen, standing guard, she's swept up in longing for the life they'd planned to share.

America is desperate for more time. But while she's torn between her two futures, the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want - and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.

infuriatingly good.

This 2nd book was so infuriating. Almost everything the main girl did or thought enraged me. I wondered how she kept making bad choices over and over when she is a smart girl. And don't let me start on that love triangle or square or whatever. Jalousie is a crazy thing and love can truly be blinding. Thankfully, the end of the book gave me the peace and closure I needed.
So, if you are looking for a book that will engage your emotions in an unexpected way, this is the one.
This might be the 1st book that made me so mad I can't believe I loved it. At times, I wanted to go in there and shake some sense into that girl.
The author has a true talent.

It’s OKAY

I may like it better with a different narrator. She just isn’t my cup of tea. But the story is predictable but I did want to finish it so it wasn’t that bad.

I love this series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have already recommended it! The book is amazing and so is the reader.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen in just one sitting....or drive. LOL

Any additional comments?

Oh my gosh!!! This series is AWESOME! There is so much to say about why I loved, loved, loved this book! I loved The Selection and I just love The Elite even more!

The Elite picks up pretty much right where The Selection left off, and there is so much more that happens throughout this book! Oh…my! Something really terrible happens to one of my favorite characters in this book and I was absolutely horrified! That’s when we also learn how horrible the nation’s leaders really are. There are also some eye-opening things that happen that had me questioning the true motives of the rebels, and a bunch of other events that have left me curious about what is really going on all around! OH MY!!!! I’m dying to know more!

As for the romance! I was a little sad that Prince Maxon is absent from a lot of the book; especially, because Aspen is back in the picture and we see him throughout the book. I don’t hate Aspen, but I just really don’t want America to be with him. Then something horrible happens that had me questioning my feelings about Prince Maxon, but my feelings are really clear now! And this other thing that happens with Prince Maxon… I WAS a little horrified with the initial shock of it, but I should have expected it and I’m not really mad at him. I’m thinking, “Can I really blame the guy?” “Nah, I’m good!” I’m still Team Maxon!

There‘s a lot of craziness that happens near the end of The Elite, and I was worried that it was going to end in a way that I wouldn’t be happy with, but it actually ends perfectly! It ends in a way that has me dying for the last book and it left me knowing that the next book will be fabulous!

Shades of Gray - No Resolution, More Questions

Would you listen to The Elite again? Why?

Yes, I will listen to it again before the final book comes out in order to refresh my memory.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The heroine America Singer, I guess. Despite the lousy name, she IS the heroine, so we see her perspective on everything - her concern for her family, her confusion about events, her conflicting desires as she is torn between two suitors.

Which character – as performed by Amy Rubinate – was your favorite?

I liked Aspen - maybe it's more the way he was written, but he seemed calm, steady, and totally reliable. He sounded like that too, so thanks, Amy Rubinate!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved (as in taken aback) when America caught Prince Maxon's in flagrante delicto with another contestant - it was so unexpected! Up until then his actions seemed pretty honest and straightforward - that cast him in a whole new light.

Loved it but

I will start by saying I think this book was well writen and kept my interest to the very end, and it also makes me look forward to the next book. However I will say that though in some ways I like America (the character) there are ways in which I don't like her. I think she is double minded and selfish. She wants Prince Maxin and she want her former love too. When prince Maxin gives attention the the other girls she sees it as a betrayal all the while not seeing that she is doing the same exact thing. Still I think that perhaps this is her character flaw that perhaps she might hopefully overcome in the next book and thus I'm still giving this book a five star. There are twists and turns that I didn't see coming but enjoyed especially toward the end where we catch a glimpse into the why's of Prince Maxin

Review

such a good book. I had the worst knot in my stomach listening towards the end. I could really feel what she was going thru. I am guessing that is due to the narrator. :)
