Publisher's summary

The selection began with 35 girls. Now, with the group narrowed down to the Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's love is fiercer than ever. The closer America gets to the crown, the more she struggles to figure out where her heart truly lies. Each moment she spends with Maxon is like a fairy tale, filled with breathless, glittering romance. But whenever she sees her first love, Aspen, standing guard, she's swept up in longing for the life they'd planned to share.

America is desperate for more time. But while she's torn between her two futures, the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want - and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.

enjoyed

this book, though not as much as the first. America comes across as stereotypically fickle. hoping cass redeems her a bit in book 3.

infuriatingly good.

This 2nd book was so infuriating. Almost everything the main girl did or thought enraged me. I wondered how she kept making bad choices over and over when she is a smart girl. And don't let me start on that love triangle or square or whatever. Jalousie is a crazy thing and love can truly be blinding. Thankfully, the end of the book gave me the peace and closure I needed.
So, if you are looking for a book that will engage your emotions in an unexpected way, this is the one.
This might be the 1st book that made me so mad I can't believe I loved it. At times, I wanted to go in there and shake some sense into that girl.
The author has a true talent.

It’s OKAY

I may like it better with a different narrator. She just isn’t my cup of tea. But the story is predictable but I did want to finish it so it wasn’t that bad.

Where do I begin? It's wonderful!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Elite to be better than the print version?

I bought the print version and the audiobook. I started off with listening to it and switched for the last half of the book to reading it. I have to say I read faster than the narrator reads it but I didn't see any drawbacks to either.

Have you listened to any of Amy Rubinate’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Her voice/tone seemed a little different in this book compared to The Selection. It didn't take me long to adjust to it though. I'm glad they kept the same reader because I'm not sure I would have wanted to listen to a new reader for this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well, I finished the book in nearly one sitting. Like I said above though, I switched off to reading it on the second half.

Any additional comments?

This book brought me on an emotional roller coaster. It's a great follow up to The Selection and it leaves you pretty well wrapped up at the end so you're not sitting on the end of your seat until "The One" comes out. However, on page 305 (hardcover book edition - not sure what chapter it is at the top of my head) I was sure I was going to be angry with the way it was going and had to force myself to keep reading the last 20 or so pages. Kiera Cass does a great job at drawing you into her words and you become very involved with the relationships and characters she writes about it. I highly recommend this to most people I talk to (females, not so much the males) since it really is at the heart a romance novel.

The story continues

I'm not sure why this couldn't have been one book except for it is aimed at YA group. I enjoyed the first book very much and it left with such a cliff hanger I had no choice but to get book 2 in the series. Well read, interesting take on women competition dynamics.

In love with The Selection.

The Selection has been a joy to read. I appreciate a book that isn't all about sex and graphic violence. If you are looking for a series that will steak your heart then this is your desire!
