Publisher's summary

The Carrie Diaries is the coming-of-age story of one of the most iconic characters of our generation.

Before Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw was a small town girl who knew she wanted more. She's ready for real life to start, but first she must navigate her senior year of high school. Up until now, Carrie and her friends have been inseparable. Then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture, and a friend's betrayal makes her question everything.

With an unforgettable cast of characters, The Carrie Diaries is the story of how a regular girl learns to think for herself, and evolves into a sharp, insightful writer. Readers will learn about her family background, how she found her writing voice, and the indelible impression her early friendships and relationships left on her. Through adventures both audacious and poignant, we'll see what brings Carrie to her beloved New York City, where her new life begins.

TEEN GENRE!!

Love Candace Bushnell and I have enjoyed laughing out loud while listening to her audiobooks, that said, I made this purchase by just seeing the author's name and not reading it thoroughly enough to see that now it was a teen series.

If you like the teen books, I think this will be a great read. It was not what I was expecting, and after a couple of hours, I was like, wait, is this labeled teen? Ms. Bushnell always is entertaining, great writer.

terrible

I'm a big fan of SATC but I'm sorry, this book was terrible. It was boring and plotless with one-dimensional characters and a horrible narration. The only reason I listened to the entire thing is because I was on a road trip to and from Chicago with 10 hours of driving to fill- otherwise would have barely made it through the first half. This book underscores the reality that Bushnell had very little to do with the tv show "Sex and the City" which is a good thing. She is a terrible writer and I won't be purchasing anymore of her books!

A lot better than the grown-up Bushnell books

This wasn't at all what I expected. It was way better! It is a lot more sincere and less materialistic than the so-called "Grown-up" Carrie franchise. In fact, I can't see how this Carrie grew up into the less substantial Carrie in the later books. What happened, did she get a lobotomy? The older reader knows exactly how Sebastian Kydd is going to turn out, and knows that George is a good guy and would hope Carrie learned to spot a good guy.

With that said, I LOVED the narrator!!!!!! The narrator did all the voices just right. I almost thought it was Sarah Jessica Parker. The "laid-back" voice of the privileged, sardonic Kydd was dead on. I could feel the lies dripping from Kydd's voice--I mean the narrator's. Perfect!

Finally

Any additional comments?

There are soo many books that are far from reality, so this was a nice surprise. If only I could find more books like this one in the teen section.

too much whining

The narrator is so unbearably annoying that I couldn't pay attention to the book, although I suspect her voice was perfectably suitable for the innane content I managed to listen to. Was quick to erase it from my IPOD and my memory. Hate to have wasted a credit on this trash!

Fun, fun, fun

I got a kick out of this book. I loved Carrie as a teenager discovering who she was - first loves - and best friends.
